A Message From Our President

t is my pleasure to welcome you to the Kiwanis Club of La Cañada, California Web Site. We have been a Kiwanis Chapter in La Cañada for over 50 years. Our membership is 96 outstanding men and women from our community who meet each Wednesday at Noon at Descanso Gardens. We meet, we greet, we network, we eat the best food served by the Barkley Restaurant Caterers, we sing, we joke, we have fun, we have great speakers. We are known as movers and shakers in our community. Each year we earn and give back to our community 40 to 45 thousand dollars plus countless hours of service to serve the children of our community and the world.

We are a world wide organization with the motto "WE BUILD". Our goal is to be the world’s leading organization motivating adult and youth volunteers to meet the needs of children. For the millennium we chose, "KIWANIS: SERVING THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD".

We sponsor Key Clubs at La Cañada High school with 170 members and Flintridge Prep with 90 members. The students in these clubs build their own organizations with guidance from outstanding school personnel and Kiwanis members and they build and serve their community and their country through special work service projects. They gain tremendous exposure and training in learning management skills in doing these tasks and they have the opportunity to attend regional and national Key Club Conventions where they compete against other clubs on the quality of their service projects while at the same time meeting, having fun and expanding their friendships with other Key Clubbers across the country. Our Key Clubs are recognized as being among the best in the nation. We support Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Sycamores and other youth groups. We also are sponsoring a new K-Kids Club at Palm Crest Elementary for grades 5 through 6.

Several of our major projects are; The La Cañadan of the Year, the Apple for the Teacher Program at the start of the new school year, and our Travel Adventure Programs take us by film around the world.
