With a motto "Serving Children of the World," the La Canada Flintridge Kiwanis Club (noon version) daily follows that principal. In the process, members find many ways to serve the community while making new friends and having fun. The LCF Kiwanis was formed in 1948 and is one of 12 clubs in Division 3. Our division is one of 47 in the California-Nevada-Hawaii District, the largest in Kiwanis International. Our own club has had five past Lieutenant Governors.

Kiwanis is open to all and the process of becoming a member is as simple as having a current member as a sponsor, followed by approval by the Membership Committee and the Board of Directors. Our Membership Chair provides prospective members with a brief background about Kiwanis.

Benefits include good food and good programs each week at noon at Descanso Gardens. Meetings begin at 11:50 AM and are over at approximately 1:30 p.m. The last half-hour of the meeting is generally our program, and they are informative, exciting and entertaining.

The first Thursday of each month is the board meeting and these meetings are open to all members.

Some of the highlights of membership each year is participation in the selection and honoring of an outstanding resident or couple in the community as "La Canadan of the Year." We also enjoy participation in the LCF Chamber of Commerce’s annual Fiesta Days’ celebration on Memorial Day weekend. We have a reputation for cookin’ the best ‘burgers in town at the annual picnic. We gather for travelogues several times a year, where armchair tours are provided in film through folks who know all about the places they have visited. This year, we again are holding our Greater Los Angeles Soap Box derby over Memorial Day weekend. Nearly everyone in the club is involved in this activity. We go to plays, have a great holiday party, a fun summer gathering and intersperse theater trips, baseball games and many more social activities to help us to get to know each other.  We present "An apple for the teacher day" prior to the beginning of school each year and we have been lucky to have the Rose Queen and Royal Court visit us each year. We also attend District and International Conventions (it’s a good excuse to travel, learn more about Kiwanis and have fun). We even sponsor a Wine & Gourmet Food Tasting event in September.

All members are expected to do is attend club meetings with a minimum of 60 percent attendance. We like our members to be willing to serve the community and support the objectives of Kiwanis. As in most organizations, we are expected to meet our financial obligations, make a commitment of time for our projects and to serve on committees.
