Kiwanis Club of La Canada is hosting a Book Drive for 3 weeks in the month February 2010
Book Drive Dates: Feb 1 – Feb 21st 2010
NEEDED: New Books or Lightly Used Books Only Please
Why a new book? Because a new book tells a child, "You are valuable." A new book feels good in the hands. A new book is a prized possession. Children are more likely to learn about responsibility if they find value in their possessions. A new book encourages reading and heightens a sense of anticipation about receiving another book!

Maureen, the owner of Once Upon A Time bookstore in La Crescenta was attending an event at Toll Middle School recently. She found herself sitting next to a little girl. Maureen turned to the child and asked, ”Are you going to the Book Fair today?” The little girl replied, “No, I don’t have any money.” Maureen said, “Do you like to read?” “Yes,” the child said in a small voice, “but I only have one book at home. It was the book you gave me last year”
This brought tears to my eyes when Maureen told me the story. We often don’t realize how privileged we are to have a house full of books. Every child should have the opportunity to read and Kiwanis, along with your help, is going to make sure that many more children do!
By working together we can have an impact on our society that will be felt for generations to come. We’re not just giving out children books – we’re giving children a brighter future.
THE BOOKS WILL BE DONATED TO:
Los Angeles County USC Medical Center –Public County Hospital. Their reading Program has volunteers that read to the child patients and the children can take some of the books home with them.
