The La Cawañian La Cañada, CA – Sept 27, 2000 THEME - JIM OUT, JIM IN Jeanne Broberg, Editor OPENING: Thanks to Arroyo Seco Food and Beverage and Jim Campbell we began with yummy, substantial, plentiful and attractive hors d'oeuvres, plus libations and most importantly comradery, could there be a better opening? Descanso even remodeled the patio roof just in time. The 1989-90 Lieutenant Governor (now who would that be?) led us in "God Bless America" (the words to the verses do require a little cheat peeking). Phil Anderson's invocation addressed the " District Governor of the World and Spiritual Aims Chairman of the Universe" in thanking God for our blessings and the SIT-DOWN banquet before us. CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL BUCKETS Dear Old (young) Anthony has brought us way over the top of our year's goal of $1000.00 to $1700.00. He was so bold as to suggest doubling the goal by hitting $2000.00, which we did by night's end. Al Perry Jr.'s table quickly produced almost $100.00.-True Kiwanians. Outgoing (and he is) President Jim Reynolds continued bestowing thank you's and then was presented with enough honors and thank you's to sink a submarine. Talented Jerry Healey mastered the ceremonies. Current Lieutenant Governor Vic Legerton very appropriately installed the 2000-01 Officers and Board but wondered what he was doing at a Rotary Club meeting at Huntington Hospital seeing Ed Moulton receive "Rookie of the Year". (you had to have been there) Shirley DeGrey, true to form created "Smiles" and we all launched President James T. Edwards in song. There is no one with the dedication of President Jim Edwards. Why he has consented to serve and unprecedented term of 20 years... It's in print, check the program. Next week: Business as usual, with a new Jim of course. Flag Salute: Mark Mannarelli; Invocation: Al Restivo; Sergeant of Arms: Dale Stenzel
