The La Kawañian La Cañada, CA – Sept 4, 2002 Claire Slaughter, Guest Editor OPENING. This being "Crazy Shirt Day" , everyone, well most everyone, was crazy except for Martha Crockett who played wonderful, classics, music while the crowd gathered. President Pat opened the meeting with Ed Moulton leading us in "God Bless America". followed by the Pledge of Allegiance led by Glen Pettit and an invocation given by Howard Backer. (Ed note: This was the same inspiration Jean McVicker gave at the AM meeting.) Guests introduced were: Shirley DeGrey, Lt. Gov. Pat Liddell and yours truly. President Pat reminded everyone of the September 16 Lt Gov. Installation and sent around the sign up sheet for that event. Sorry that Melinda Thompson was not present to receive the raffle prize she won at the District Convention. HAPPY/SAD/BUSINESS BUCKS. Mary Gant, Sgt. at Arms collected from Glen Pettit, who queried Mr. Portantino about the telephone pole in the middle of the Beulah Drive extension. Bill Watts inquired how it is that we are using small forks; Ed Moulton sad that Connie's hand did not heal correctly and had to be reset - Clyde Hemphill threw in sympathy buck for Connie. Frosty Boyd antied up for a grandchild's wedding and another one of his famous stories. Daryal Gant happy that Joel Peterson will soon be joining the club; Jim Edwards happy for USC's win over the weekend; Patsy Christianson was so sad for her broken down car, she didn't have a buck to put in the pot; Hal Crockett and family went to Trinidad to celebrate their 50th anniversary and Howard Backer finally off of jury duty. ANNOUNCEMENTS. Next week is Clergy Recognition Day and everyone will want to attend - Rev. John Day will share his experiences at Ground Zero following Sept. 11. Those of you who have not attended an interclub this year should contact Bob Wallace immediately. Time is running out!!! Paul Westmoreland reminded everyone that he is updating the directory. Ed Moulton reminded everyone to get out there and sell Travelogue Tickets. Doris Horwith reminded all chairmen that their August reports are due. Howard Backer made a plea for those members with money owed, especially to the Foundation, pay up before the end of this month. DRAWINGS. Patsy Christianson won the e 50/50 raffle and will sell tickets next week (She now has money to pay her sad buck). The drawing for prizes for "Crazy Shirts" were won by Frank Williams, Glen Pettit, Bill Wiederkehr, Tom Gilfoy and Hal Crockett PROGRAM. First, a big thanks to Jim Edwards for stepping in at the last minute to present today's program. Jim, a Past President of this club, is a member of the Montrose Search and Rescue Team. The team was founded 54 years ago by a group of former Air Raid Wardens. Jim shared recollections of past adventures, services, etc in which the group has participated. Thanks Jim.
