The Prez sez
. . .

The Prez began by holding an auction for a lost
set of keys found on the sign in table. Fred
Schooley reclaimed them for a donation to the
Children Of The World.
The August Board Meeting is scheduled for
Thursday, August 4 in the CitiBank conference
room, La Cañada. This is a great opportunity
for new members to attend a Board Meeting.
We are on track to Go For Gold if we can
increase our annual membership by eight new
members by September 30. With a little effort
we will be there … only four to go.
Next week our program is Honeymoon With My
Brother presented by Kurt Wisner. Also,
don’t forget to show A-Lotta-Leg! Anything is
fair game with the one except – Speedo’s!!
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Mary Gant is looking for items that could
be used in the silent auction, which is a part
of the fund raising activities. Contact Mary
if you have anything to contribute.
Bachy reminded everyone to put a donation
in the Children’s Hospital tubs.
Scott Fuller told us about the Adopt A
Duck project being sponsored by the Glendale
Kiwanis
Club. He has flyers that give all the facts on
how you can participate. You can adopt a duck
for $5, and could win some great prizes.

THE
PROGRAM
Stan Chambers gave a very informative
talk on the history of LA and the part he played
as one of the first TV news journalists. He
covered some of the biggest news events over
the last fifty years. He has received some of
the most prestigious awards in journalism, and
he is still reporting on TV.

HAPPY
& SAD BUCKS
Ken Lowe donated five happy bucks for his
trip to Italy with the Church Choir. They sang
at the Vatican, and in other venues in Rome,
Greece, and the island of Crete.
Anthony Portantino had a very Happy Buck
because the six week visit by his mother is
about over. Her vacation with the family got
extended when she took a bad fall at Anthony’s
house and broke her ankle.
Diane DellaValle has a column in the
Outlook called the Kiwanis Korner. The
column will appear anytime she has something to
be reported. Great Job!!
Mary Gant gave a happy buck for her
daughter who reminded her that she was cooking
for nine instead of seven.
Melinda Thompson gave a happy buck for
the new truck, and a sad buck for not being able
to find a storage place for the trailer. Please
let her know if you know of a storage location
for an RV trailer.
Two sad bucks were donated having to look at
Tom Borrows legs. Just wait till next week!
Howard Backer and his wife, Rhoda,
celebrated their 25th Anniversary by
renewing their weeding vows at the La Cañada
Country Club in the presence of 50 family
members and friends.
Al Perry Sr. gave a sad buck for Jack
Dawson who’s wife, Barbara, sent him
off with only $2.49 in his pocket. How sad is
that?
