The Prez sez . . .

  • Prez Daryal reminded everyone about our June 29 Special Guest Day.  He challenged everyone to invite guests (prospective members) to attend.  He is keeping very close track of who has already invited one or more guests and is planning to make a special presentation of a “Pink Flamingo” to a member who does not invite at least one guest.  He hinted that the recipient may find the “Pink Flamingo” on their front lawn.  More to follow.

  • The Prez also is planning a super program for Special Guest Day which may include a special presentation from JPL.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1 – Mike Leininger asked for volunteers to work a shift at our hamburger  stand in the park on Memorial Day.  He passed around a sign up sheet for members to pick a time to come help.  Fiesta Days in Memorial Park is a fun time and working in the hamburger booth is a great opportunity to get to know your fellow Kiwanians .

2 -  Diane DellaValle announced that there are still 8 tickets available for the Theatre Night at the Glendale Center Theatre.  Get in touch with either Harriet Hammons or Diane for tickets while the last.

3-  Our Club Historian, Bob Martin, passed out Special Club Surveys requesting information on individual members.  The survey can be filled out at our Kiwanis Club Web Page or simply fill out on of the forms that Bob has provided.

4- Pat Anderson reminded us of all the Fiesta Days events that will be going on over the three day Memorial Day Weekend.  Throughout the weekend the chamber staff will be selling the LCF decals – one for $5 or two for $7.

5- Hal Crocket brought us up to date on the boy, Francisco Cuss, that our club sponsors in Guatemala.

6- Bachy Bachmayer for Children’s Hospital tubs.

7- Joel Smith needs help on Friday, May 27, starting at 3:30 pm to work on registering cars and drivers for the Soap Box Derby.  Also reminded everyone who is working on Saturday to arrive by 7 am to set up for the race.

8- Karl Johnson reminded us to bring in our used printer cartridges, and thanked everyone who has been donating cartridges.

9- Frank Ragazzi announced that next weeks program will be Crazy Highway Signs presented by Ed Kline.  Should be a lot of fun!

FROSTY’S SLA REPORT

Frosty had nothing new to report for SLA, and told a joke instead, and it was funny!!

THE PROGRAM

The La Cañada High School Key Club took charge of our meeting lead by their President, Chin Rey Yong.  There were a total of 14 Key Clubbers involved in the meeting and program.  Robert Gee took care of the piano-playing duties and gave an outstanding performance!

Key Club Members running Kiwanis Meeting

Key Club Prez returned to the podium to discover that his agenda for the meeting was missing.  It appeared that one of the announcers had accidently picked up the missing agenda.  An extensive search finally revealed that Hal was the culprit.
