SPECIAL PRESENTATION AND VOTE
Don
Corbett asked for the support of all Club
Members for our Wine and Gourmet Food
Tasting fundraiser. A vote was taken
(as required by the Bylaws) to require all
members to purchase a minimum of two tickets for
the event. Results of the secret ballot
overwhelmingly supported the requirement.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1 -
Paul Westmoreland encouraged those members
who haven’t yet attended an InterClub to take
advantage of the one planned next Wednesday
morning with the La Cañada Kiwanis AM Club.

available. The Summer Social will be on July 10

is moving forward. We have received book “wish
lists” from two schools and the books have been
ordered. The third school we will be helping is
a brand new school that is not yet open.

Soap Box Derby as well as SUVs or trucks to tow
the trailers.

man our Hamburger Stand for just one hour on
Memorial Day. Workers are needed from 11 a.m.

YMCA
APPRECIATION
Deborah
Weirick is a natural born cheerleader and
had us all on our feet singing Y.M.C.A..
(This song by the Village People was #2 on the
charts about 30 years ago.) Deborah is
one of our new members and is in charge of
fundraising at the Y. Her actual title is
Development Director.

THE
PROGRAM
Jodi
Jill is a Literacy Advocate. She told her
personal story to illustrate how important it is
to provide every child and adult with the
opportunity to learn to read. Jody’s
parents never allowed her to go to school or
learn to read. She didn’t even know what a book
was or that words could be written until she was
allowed to go to a library as a teenager. Three
Longmont, Colorado, librarians “broke some
library rules” and provided Jodi with the
opportunity to become acquainted with books.
Jodi’s story of childhood deprivation, escape,
and journey to become literate was amazing.
After twelve years as a literary agent and
successfully helping many authors get their
books published, Jodi became a full time author
and promoter of her Quit Whining and Read!
Literacy program. If you weren’t there, you
missed a most amazing presentation.

HAPPY &
SAD BUCKS
Ed
Moulton … Sad his doctor made him miss
the meeting last week, but Happy because he only
spent one night in the hospital.
Clyde
Hemphill … Happy for George Lutes
who finally got the Soap Box Derby program to
the press.
Paul
Westmoreland … Happy because he had a
Dinuba newspaper and could bring us up-to-date
on the small town happenings. (Paul
– do you really want to brag about Dinuba when
the top student at the high school got stuck in
the chimney when he tried to get into his house
after losing the key?)
Deborah
Weirick … Happy/Thankful for our Club’s
support of the YMCA prayer breakfast.
Karl
Johnson … Happy/Appreciative for all the
help he had making arrangements for the La Cañadan of the Year.
Linda
Magarian … Happy her son’s basketball
team (he is a high school coach in northern
California) is the champion of their league and
heading to the playoffs.
George
Lutes … Happy he got the Soap Box Derby
program to the printers.
Don
Corbett … Happy for the outstanding
support of our Club Members for the Wine and
Gourmet Food Tasting fundraiser.
