“You can easily determine
the caliber of a person
by the
amount of opposition it takes to discourage her.”
ANNOUNCEMENTS
-
Harriet
Hammons provided
more details on the Day at the Races social event.
Call her for more details. Contact Howard Backer to
sign up – only $50 for a fun filled afternoon. At least ten
members have already signed up!
-
Secretary
Bill Scherkey requested the January reports from all
committee chairs.
-
Paul
Westmoreland
reported on two interclubs held recently.
-
Bill Watts
still had open
squares on the Super Bowl pool grid.
-
Jim Ackland
reminded everyone to remember M&M – Membership Matters.
Bring some guests next week.
-
Bachy
Bachmeyer reminded
us to stuff our spare green stuff or change into the
Children’s Hospital canisters on our tables.
FROSTY’S
SLA
REPORT
It was great to
see Doris Horwith back after her surgery several weeks
ago. Theo Abelmann is still recovering from a very
serious fall and has only been out once since then. She loves
to chat; giver her a call.
THE PROGRAM
Jim Knisley
used to be a member of our club, but moved to
Virginia
several years ago. He and his wife are ministers at a
Lutheran
Church
near
Fredericksburg
and has become very interested in the historical battles that
took place in that area. Jim gave us a good overview of
several of the battles, including lots of little interesting
details. Many thanks to Jim for taking the time to share with
us!

Jim Knisley,
Guest Speaker
HAPPY & SAD
BUCKS
-
Hal
Crockett …
Happy because 1) a week ago he and Martha were
watching beautiful snowflakes falling up in Mammoth, and 2)
someone called to see if they were okay when they missed our
Wednesday meeting.
-
Clyde
Hemphill …
Happy he got to sit in Jim Reynold’s seat, but
Jim wanted him to pay rent.
-
Frosty
Boyd … Happy
because Fran is progressing so well from her knee
replacement she is chasing him around the house again.
-
Frank
Ragazzi …
Happy because Vi was with him at the meeting.
-
Bill
Watts
… Sad because the iced tea glasses were gone again.
-
Ken Lowe
… Happy because Tom Gilfoy had some of the
most beautiful camellia’s on display at the Descanso show
last Sunday and won several prizes.
-
Bob
Martin …
Happy because his house guest from
Okinawa
told him you are not officially old until you are 94 years
old.
-
Ed
Moulton …
Happy to see Charlie Broberg.
-
Elizabeth
Calcianno …
Sad because 28 oak trees were lost in Descanso and have
left gaping holes in the landscape.
-
Vi
Ragazzi …
Happy she got to go to the Jewell City interclub where
awards were given to the Costco employees who helped at the
train wreck in Glendale last week.
-
Harriet
Hammons …
Happy because of the Boy Scouts birthday coming up and
because she finally got her telephone back after three weeks
(and negotiated a better monthly service rate, as well).
-
Jim
Edwards … Happy
to have Charles Broberg back and Sad because
his favorite basketball team lost.
-
Melinda
Thompson …
Sad the club newsletter she wrote last week was “lost”
on the internet between her email and Jeb’s email
mailbox, but Happy because – according to Vic
Legerton last week – being too quick to publish each
week discourages other club members from volunteering.
