Kiwanis Family Day at the Races
will be a one of-a-kind event! Valet parking, paddock tour,
backside tour, private club Plaza Room with our own buffet, wet
bar, tellers and private handicappers. Five of our Club Members
have already signed up. Join the fun! Sign up with Howard
Backer.
Plan on attending our Board Meeting next Thursday
evening. Committee Chairs are strongly encouraged to attend.
(The Prez intends to end the meeting at 8:30 p.m. His new system
worked quite well last month.)
Plan on attending the LCF City Council Candidates Forum
on Tuesday, February 8. Our Club is one of the sponsors
of the event.
Kiwanis Bucks are available from Howard
Backer. These are $2 bills and can be used for Happy or Sad
Bucks. (Our Club Members in the 1950s were giving Happy/Sad
Bucks. This is a small attempt to offset the inflation gap.)
A week or two ago Jack Dawson suggested we consider
contributing to a recovery effort in the La Conchita
mudslide area. We checked with the Ventura Kiwanis Clubs
and found out they did not have any special activity set up to
provide assistance.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
1 - Al Restivo needs volunteers for the
invocations. The sign-up sheet is on the back table.

2 - Paul Westmoreland announced an
InterClub with the Glendale Club on Friday, February 18 at noon.

3 - Ken Lowe reported there will be a
LCHS Key Club fundraiser at Round Table Pizza on Wednesday
evening, February 2 from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.
4 - Ed Moulton is looking for good
Kiwanian TALENT for our Talent Show on March 30, but he will
settle for questionable talent.

5 - Bob Wallace reminded us that
Membership Matters (the M&Ms were on the table), and we all need
to be scouting for new members and bringing those potential
members to our Wednesday meetings as guests. Turn the M&M upside
down, and you get Willing Workers!

6 - Bachy Bachmayer reminds
us to contribute to the Childrens' Hospital

7. Bill Watts announces that Super Bowl Pool
is a fun fundraiser, so buy a $5 square or two if you haven’t done
so already. Our Foundation will get 50%.

FROSTY’S SLA REPORT
Dick DeGrey is feeling much better and
would love a phone call. Of course, timing is everything – so
call late in the morning or later in the afternoon. Theo
Abelmann is recovering from her bad fall and also enjoys our
phone calls. Doris Horwith recovered very quickly from her
gall bladder surgery several weeks ago and was back to work in
three days.

THE PROGRAM
Vic Legerton is the current president of
the Glendale Kiwanis Club and had been one of our Kiwanis Lt.
Governors. He has worked hard to upgrade our Kiwanis use of the
internet. The internet saves a lot of mailing costs and is also
the fastest and easiest way to communicate and share information.
Vic believes their Glendale Club’s upgraded website helped
attract fifteen of their recent new members! He believes using
the internet can really reduce the administrative duties in a club
and allow much more real time for the volunteer work we do so
well. Vic invited us to attend their Glendale Club’s
Friday meeting on February 4th; their speaker will be
Larry Wilde who has written and published 55 books on
humor.

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

President with his reward purse
Mark Alexander … Happy because
USC won it’s 11th National Championship. Mark
gave $12 – one for each Championship so far and one for next
year’s National Championship.
Prez Daryal … Happy because UCLA
shared the National Championship in 1954. The Prez put a
Kiwanis $2 Buck in the Cash Box
Paul Westmoreland … Happy that
Mark Alexander and his permanent badge were both at the
meeting on the same day.
Pat Anderson … Happy that Mark
Alexander finally got his permanent badge, and Sad
because
Johnny Carson died.
Jack Dawson … Happy and impressed
that our LCF City government responded within five minutes to a
dangerous situation in the city on two different occasions last
week.
Glen Pettit … Happy to the tune
of $5 because he had a physical and the report was … he should be
around for at least another year.
Ed Moulton … Happy for the good
publicity and good picture of the Prez on the front page
of the Valley Sun last week. In fact Ed was really happy and gave
$100 Happy Bucks.
Howard Backer … Happy for his
marriage to Rhoda and contributed $75 Happy Bucks.
Frank Ragazzi … Happy because we
had a great turnout at the Travel Adventure on Saturday night.
Jim Reynolds … Sad because the
Prez keeps hassling him about sitting at the same
seat/table every
week.
