ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Paul Westmoreland has an interclub scheduled for January 26 with the PhilAm Club.

  •  Harriet Hammons encouraged us to consider attending Kiwanis Family Day at the Races on February 21st.  The cost of $50 per person includes valet parking, admission, program, paddock tour, backside tour, private club Plaza Room with our own buffet and wet bar, tellers and private handicappers.  Quite a bargain.  This is not a fund raiser.  Just a fun raiser.

  • Harriet Hammons also announced the chance to win a 2005 Acura TL.  This is a fund raising drawing to benefit the Verdugo Hills Chapter of the Boy Scouts.  There are only 425 tickets being sold at $100 each.

  • Bill Watts has set up a Super Bowl pool - $5 for each box on the chart.  Winnings will be split between the club and the winner.

  • Jim Ackland introduced M&M, our new membership campaign .  Membership Matters!  Start thinking about possible new members and bring them to a meeting as a guest.  We all need to be WW – Willing Workers!

  • Karl Johnson reminded us to keep bringing our empty printer cartridges, old eyeglasses, cell phones, and aluminum can tabs.

  • Bachy Bachmayer mentioned thank you letters we received from the Girl Scouts and Children’s Hospital.  We need to keep putting our change in the table canisters.

  • Ed Moulton encouraged everyone to attend the Travel Adventure this Saturday evening.  Sailing Down to Rio on the Queen Mary 2 should be very entertaining.

FROSTY’S SLA REPORT

Theo Abelmann  had a bad fall but is on the mend.  After the meeting we heard that Doris Horwith has had gall bladder surgery and came through the surgery well.

THE PROGRAM

Our speaker, Tim Hacket, had an interesting video that was produced by the Pasadena Art Center College of Design.  The video described the various programs and goals of Foothill Vocational Opportunities.  The organization provides work and training for disabled adults.  When possible, the clients are moved into “regular” jobs in the community.  In addition to subcontract work for many local companies, Foothill Vocational makes all of the three hole punches used by the U.S. government.  This is a $2 million a year contract.

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Frosty BoydHappy that Fran’s recovery from her knee replacement is progressing well.  She is already using a walker and getting around on her own.

Karl JohnsonHappy his assistant, who has been battling cancer, is cancer free and back to work.

Al Perry, Jr.  … Sad he had been eliminated from the sign-in sheet.  Howard Backer admitted responsibility for the slip-up.

Clyde HemphillSad to see what is happening to our Prez.  First it was Jelly Roll, and now a purse around his neck.  Mary Gant piped up - she has her clothes locked up.

Matt ReganHappy there was such great support for the Toy Drive.  $800 was raised and provided a very nice Christmas for a family in need.

Prez DaryalHappy Harriet Hammons is already so active in the club; she attended the DCM meeting and did a great job selling raffle tickets.
