2.  On the Information Table there are updated lists of Committee Chairs and Committee members and other positions in the Club and Foundation.  (See attachment)  These are not “set in stone” appointments.

“A real patriot is the fellow who gets a parking ticket and rejoices that the system works.”

ANNOUNCEMENTS

1  -  Pat Anderson was passing out stickers for our cell phones.  The stickers have the direct telephone number of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station – to be used for emergencies.

2  -  Bachy Bachmayer reminded us to be generous and make a contribution to Children’s Hospital by dropping some cash into the tub on our lunch table.

3  -  Paul Westmoreland reminded us to sign up for the interclub opportunity to meet the Kiwanis International President on December 30.  Lunch at the Pasadena Hilton.

4  -  Mike Leininger reminded us to sign up to help serve dinner to the Rose Float volunteers on December 28.

5  -  Matt Regan passed out pledge sheets for this year’s Toy Drive.  We will be providing gifts for a homeless family through the Door of Hope organization.  Matt will do all the shopping for us; we just need to give him the money.

6  -  Harriet Hammons gave us our last reminder re the Holiday Party at the Dawson’s house this Sunday.  If you haven’t signed up yet, call Harriet and she will put you on her wait list.

FROSTY’S SLA REPORT

Our club received a letter from Frank Williams; unfortunately, he is unable to come to our meetings any more and has submitted his resignation.  Dick DeGrey is really getting his energy back and is anxious to join us on Wednesdays again.

THE PROGRAM

Prez Daryal  introduced Nilo Pinada, our Kiwanis Lieutenant Governor for Division 3.  (Division 3 includes twelve clubs in the Glendale, Crescenta Valley, Eagle Rock area.)  Nilo was very active in Kiwanis in the Philippines before he came to the United States in 1963.  He is an attorney in Glendale; his specialty is international law.   Nilo’s entire family is involved in Kiwanis now.  The most critical problem in Kiwanis at this time is membership; our District currently has 560 members. This is 100 less than last year.  Nilo encouraged us to use our InterClubs to really get acquainted with the members of the smaller clubs and look for ways to help them build their membership.  His goal for this year is to build the membership of the clubs we have in District 3 rather than starting any new clubs.  Nilo also mentioned several Kiwanis projects.  Our International IDD (Iodine Deficiency) project should be completed in the near future.  This year the District Governor’s project is Go for the Gold, and most clubs are still working on PTP, the Pediatric Trauma Prevention program.  Nilo’s presentation was very inspirational, and it was evident he is a very dedicated Kiwanian.

Nilo Pinadam, Guest Speaker

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Jack Dawson Happy for something having to do with bunions and Dr. Allan Perry

Diane DellaValle … Happy her store (The Antique House) will only be open sixteen more days – and then she will be semi-retired.  Also Happy because Joel Smith gave her a rocker to sell, and Diane and Joel will donate all proceeds to our Kiwanis Foundation.

Clyde Hemphill … Sad that Joel is off his rocker.

Sue Leabo Happy about Mike Leininger’s promotion to Assistant Superintendent.

Harriet Hammons Happy because the school where her daughter teaches (Verdugo Woodlands) was hailed in the newspaper again.

Paul Westmoreland Happy that Kiwanis and Dinuba were on the front page of something.

Carl Christensen … Happy to have his name in the bulletin, but wish it was spelled correctly.

Patsy Christianson  Happy she will be able to attend our meetings more often when she gets her new hip.

Dave Spence Sad that Margaret Pankratz has “retired herself” from her volunteer position heading up the tree lighting at Glenola Park.

Frank Ragazzi … Happy Jim Ackland was back and looking chipper.

Jim Reynolds … Happy his alma matre, Auburn, is going to the Orange Bowl.

FACTS AND FICTION

Music:  piano tunes by Martha Crockett, Ed Moulton leading O Come All Ye Faithful, Welcome Welcome, and Hail Kiwanis

Opening: flag salute by Jeb Long and inspiration by Chuck Gulick

Guests:  None – and Prez Daryal chastised all of us

Milestone  -  Bob Wallace presented Mike Leininger with his permanent badge.

We’ve Missed You and We’re Glad To See You:  Jim Ackland with his new pace maker, Patsy Christianson, Matt Regan, Steve Hagerty, and Sue Leabo

Birthdays:  Steve Hagerty on Dec. 4 and Matt Regan (who joined the Century Club) on Dec. 5

Fifty-Fifty Drawing:  Frank Ragazzi

Frosty’s Challenge:  Frosty got quite a few laughs with his story about a whale and Jonah.  Ed Moulton took up the challenge, and then Al Perry Sr. told one of the shortest stories ever – about stubbing his toe while camping and calling 911 for a tow truck.

Knock Knock Joke:  George Lutes told a Knock Knock joke that no one understood, and the vote was thumbs down.

Jelly Roll Revelation:  Anthony Portantino was pictured in the Dec. 2nd Valley Sun.  Even with the help of a magnifying glass, Prez Daryal couldn’t see a Kiwanis Club pin on Anthony’s lapel.  Anthony may not have been contrite, but he “contributed” $20 to the Children of the World anyway.
