ANNOUNCEMENTS
-
Paul Westmoreland presented Bob Wallace with his Past
President badge (only “on order” a year).
-
Paul Westmoreland explained some refinements to the
InterClub Picture Chart. When you attend your first InterClub
meeting, your picture will be replaced by your name tag; the
stars on your name tag will indicate the number of InterClub
meetings you have attended. Remember, the InterClub sign up
lists are on Prez Daryal’s new “utility table.”
-
Harriet Hammons reminded everyone to set aside December
12th – 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. for the Holiday Party at the
Dawson’s house. No excuses with this much advance
notice!
FROSTY’S SLA
REPORT
Frosty had a nice chat with with both Dick and
Shirley DeGrey. Dick has been home from the hospital a
week now and feeling stronger.
THE PROGRAM
There was
a little confusion, but no one was disappointed with
Gary Dennis’
excellent slide show of the Cities of Apostle Paul – even
though we thought he was going to tell us about his trip to
India. (What a good reason to invite him back!)

Gary’s
pictures were excellent, and he was full of interesting stories
and amazing facts regarding the history of Greece and Turkey.

The Prez and Gary
“My grandfather once told me that there are two
kinds of people: those who do the work and those who take the
credit. He told me to try to be in the first group; there was
less competition there.”
- Indira Gandhi
The Prez sez . . .

-
A “problem of
prosperity” that our club has … is being spread too thin on some
important activities. Every person is needed in order to
continue the success of our service projects.
-
When asked to serve,
please look for ways to say “Yes!”
Welcome to new member Linda Magarian. Linda is a retired
teacher who lives in LCF.
-
Members may be in financial jeopardy if: 1) they
sit in the same seat every week, and/or don’t bring proof of
voting to the November 3 lunch meeting.
-
A special light will shine down on Century Club
members this year. If you come to the meeting, you’ll learn the
key.
HAPPY & SAD
BUCKS
Harriet Hammons … Happy because she is going to
Churchill to see the white polar bears.
Paul Westmoreland … Happy he was able
to attend his class reunion (in Dinuba) and spend time with
friends he has known since first grade.
Frank Ragazzi … Happy it didn’t start
raining until after the Travel Adventure program was over on
Saturday.
George Lutes … also Happy that the
rain didn’t start until after the Travel Adventures were over, as
all the parking lot signs he made were paper and would have been
ruined.
Vi Ragazzi … Happy for all the support of the Travel
Adventure program on Saturday.
Harriet Hammons … Happy that guest
Charles Waymann was her driver’s training instructor in high
school and she thinks she has been a good driver ever since.
Bob Martin … also Happy to see guest
Charles Waymann; Charles did his student teaching
with Bob when Bob was teaching history in junior
high school.
Lloyd Welch … not sure if he’s Happy or Sad
as he is leaving for Korea in a few days.
Frosty Boyd … Happy Five: he got his
pneumonia and flu shots, had a cancer removed from his hand, his
house didn’t float away, his wife isn’t pregnant, and he “is
here.”
Jack Dawson … Happy Sue Leabo
gave such a good review of the school district this morning at the
AM Club.
Bob Wallace … Happy he was able to
attend his class reunion – about 100 miles north of Dinuba in
Hopedale.
FACTS AND
FICTION
Head Table: First Lady Mary Gant,
our speaker, Gary Dennis, and two Past Presidents –
Ed Moulton and Bob Martin
Music: piano tunes by …. Prez Daryal’s
boombox, Ed Moulton leading God Bless America,
Welcome Welcome (new song), Happy Birthday, Hi
Neighbor and Hail Kiwanis

Ed Molton leading God Bless America
Opening: flag
salute by Bob Martin and
inspiration by Mary Gant
(a compliment can make another person feel so wonderful)
Guests: Elizabeth Calciano introduced her
friends from Art History class, Janet and Charles
Waymann. Mark Alexander brought Carl Alameda, a
student at USC who is interning with Mark. Don Graf of the
AM Club introduced himself; he is usually working in Descanso’s
ticket office on Wednesday but the park was empty today due to the
rain. (Descanso’s rain gauge showed 4.4 inches of rain last
night.)
We’ve Missed You and We’re Glad To See You:
Mark Alexander and Dave Spence
Jelly Roll: issued the Mascot Fine to
Bill Watts whose picture was in the Valley Sun last week –
wearing a tuxedo with a bunch of other Rotarians celebrating 50
years in Rotary.

Birthdays: Mark Alexander on September 13
and Glen Petit on October 23. Glen deferred
acknowledgment until next Wednesday; he wants to be sure he lives
long enough to celebrate his birthday on Saturday before joining
the Century Club.
Fifty-Fifty Drawing: Mel Wilson
Frosty’s Challenge: Following on
Frosty’s “Watch and Learn” (from the women) story, Bill
Scherkey had a political joke (taking courage from Jim
Reynold’s foray into the political arena last week) and Bea
surprised us with a “Have you seen Jesus” story. Our program
speaker, Gary Dennis, approved the Challenge Award going to
Bea.
Knock Knock Joke: Jack Dawson got a
thumbs down vote for his Vitamin B1 joke. The new rules are a
little confusing, but only really terrible Knock Knock
jokes will get a thumbs up vote.
Fines From
the Floor:
Prez Daryal
fined everyone not wearing a Kiwanis pin.
Bill Watts
fined
Prez Daryal
for relating the Rotary picture caption incorrectly.
Mark Alexander
fined
Sue Leabo
for
speaking to the AM Club and not to us.
Sue
said she
didn’t think she should be fined, as she has never been asked to
speak to our club.
