Shirley DeGrey was at her favorite spot, the piano, with a great selection of  tunes for all to enjoy before the meeting.  Mel Wilson led the flag salute with invocation by Glen Pettit.  Mr. Music, Ed Moulton led a spirited rendition of “You’re A Grand Old Flag.”

Following a return of the “chicken buffet”, President Jim bid us to congratulate Pete Palermo and Pat  Flynn on their birthdays and to Tom Stafford who will soon be celebrating number 88.

Guests:  President Jim introduced Ann Hazen from the Renaissance Academy and Pat Anderson brought along Wendy Gaynor from the LCF Chamber office.

Happy/Sad Bucks:  Not sure what Clyde Hemphill was happy or sad about, but we appreciate his buck – Mary Gant is happy for an interclub attendance – Bob Wallace is happy to be going on a vacation ( thought he had just returned) – Don Corbett is glad that he survived vacation – Paul Westmoreland (happy or sad?) that he had a meeting to attend and missed the Lakers demise—Jim Edwards happy to be in attendance and announced his recent marriage – will bring his new bride soon for all to meet.

Joke Contest: Frosty Boyd, Daryl Gant, and Carl Christensen participated with Carl winning with a story about a Lab Test/Cat Scan???

Announcements:  President Jim encouraged members to attend Cal-Nev-Ha District Convention – August 5-8 in Las Vegas.  Club will pay a portion of the expenses.

Ann Hazen announced that Renaissance Academy would soon be sponsoring 25 students from Korea , ages 10-12.  Looking for volunteer families to take in two students each.  President Jim talked about exchange students and what a great experience it is to share your home with them.

Ken Lowe read a thank you letter from Meressa Takahashi, LCHS Key Club, who will be attending Berkeley in the fall.  She was recipient of our $750 scholarship.

Ken also reminded everyone that next week we will be honoring current Eagle Boy Scout and Gold Award Girl Scout awardees.

Mary Gant announced that the Gourmet Food and Wine Tasting party will be coming up soon.  Next planning meeting is Tuesday, June 22 at 7 p.m.  Contact Mary for more info.

Pat Anderson reminded everyone of the next Chamber Mixer – June 24th at the Valley Sun – 5:30 – 8.  Food by Los Gringos Locos.

RaffleDaryal Gant had winning raffle ticket and drew the last remaining ball which was worth over $504.

Program – Paul Westmoreland introduced Mike Klein from JPL.  He talked about “GAVRT” (Goldstone Apple Valley Radio Telescope ) program.  This program is a partnership with NASA,  JPL and the Lewis Center for Educational Research in Apple Valley.  This provides an opportunity for students and teachers to join scientists on an interactive science/education team.  More information on this program can be obtained by logging on to “http//www.gavrt.org”.
