Opening:
We were entertained with the piano stylings of Shirley
DeGrey, who got a big hand from us all as thanks.
President Jim
Ackland brought the meeting to order.
Ed Moulton
led us in "America".
Patsy
Christianson led the pledge.
Howard Backer
gave a nice poem "The World Is Mine" as invocation.
Early
News:
Dick DeGrey
announced that Shirley
DeGrey has become a Kiwanian!
Hal Thomas
told us about wife Julia
Thomas' recent close brush with infirmity.
Julia's heart
needed an “electrician” to fix the wiring in her heart.
She is as good as new.
Guests:
Tom Gilfoy
introduced Don Mazen, world-famous author, who was happy to be
with us and reminded us about his book, "History of La Cañada". Elizabeth
Georgeon introduced Jim Owens, her neighbor and an engineer,
who is active in city affairs.
Hal Crockett

We all sang "Hi Neighbor" under Ed
Moulton's able leadership.
Then we remembered Harriet Hammons who was belatedly
given a hand. Then
we all sang "Smile And The World Smiles With You"
twice!
Announcements:
In the last Valley Sun there was an editorial about the K
Kids going with the Builder's Club and planting some flowers.

and pull tabs. Some
money goes for the kids' outings and some goes to the Ronald
McDonald House.
Bill
Watts
was given a round of applause for all his efforts in putting our
the publicity for the club.
Look for the Vial of Life program in this week's paper.
Tonight
the PTA is having a function at LCHS at which several of our
people will be honored as having been outstanding people in our
community for children. Ed
Moulton and Karl
Johnson will be there.
Meeting
with AM Club:
We had a meeting last week in search of a service project
with the AM club. Please
see Jim Ackland in
order to be on the final committee for the project.
Happy/Sad
Bucks:
George Lutes

measures to modernize most of the high school.
The district is faced with major reductions in the budget
if the parcel tax does not pass.
Harriet
Hammons gave for her granddaughter who turned one and they had a
wonderful celebration. She
gave a sad buck for this being her last meeting for a while.
She also gave for her son's dumping in the LA River.
Fortunately he is OK.
Karl Johnson
gave a sad buck for not being here for the next couple of weeks
and a happy buck for being in the Caribbean.
Patsy
Christianson gave for a birthday (we won't say how many) and
she got a surprise party with a belly dancer!
Bill
Watts
donated some for clarifying that he was not the William Watts
who recently wrote an article in the Valley Sun.
It's not our Bill.
Mary
Gant
gave a happy buck for the Mid-Year South Conference last
Saturday. Bob
Wallace gave for not embarrassing his daughter at a wedding
he attended last Saturday.
While Bob had
the microphone he reminded us about the "Dining for
Youth" on April 1.
Clyde
Hemphill

Frosty's
Challenge.
Although Frosty
Boyd was absent, Howard
Backer took up the challenge with one about the Indians and
a dead horse. George
Lutes challenged with one about a general and admiral.
Bill Watts dug one out of his memory about the
denomination of stamps.
Patsy
Christianson followed up and remembered the punch line for
one about a tender bar (bartender).
Thunderous applause was heard for all the contestants but
George Lutes won!
