OPENING: It was Swan Song time but I didn't hear
Shirley DeGrey play "Swannee" or "Swan Enchanted Evening" or "The Shadow of your Swan" or any songs for swinging Swans. Instead Kiwanians filed dutifully in to eat (chicken again?) and to see what would happen next at Bob Wallace's Swan Song. It seemed to be business as usual except there was no head table, just a podium, as Ed Moulton engaged us in singing "This Is My Country". The Pres himself led the Flag Salute and then he called on
Diane DellaValle who presented an emotional invocation.
GUESTS: The Pres greeted Past Lt. Gov. Pat Liddel; Diane DellaValle had us greet her guests
Terry Villanueva & Dodie Ulrich; Carl Christensen introduced his wife
Irene but then Patsy Christenson said Irene wasn't Carl's guest she was her guest (a floor fight was on);
Anthony Portantino welcomed our new City Manager and our newest club member Mark Alexander; The Pres was happy to see the
Rev. John Day in attendance; we saluted our two piano players
Shirley DeGrey & Martha Crockett; K Club attendees Joan Benjanthrit (?) &
Shereen Aclan were introduced by Ken Lowe.
Permanent Badge Awarded: In record setting time
Silvia Kerkorian was awarded her permanent badge by our
Membership Chairman, Paul Westmoreland..

ANNOUNCEMENTS: An election was held to fill a vacancy on the Board Of Directors.
Karl Johnson was nominated and unanimously elected; Pat Liddel
presented a distinguished club award for the year 2002-2003 to Past president
Pat Anderson and secretary Doris Horwith along with a patch for our banner and a $50 gift from Kiwanis.

Pres. Bob
only had one more date to remind us of and that is next Wednesday's installation dinner, here at Descanso, with happy hour at 6 pm and dinner at 7pm. (will it be chicken again?), he hopes all will show up, as we are dark at noon;
Barry Riedel said to sell tickets to the Traveloque as the first program is coming up soon;
Paul Westmoreland said Jim Ackland's team was ahead in the membership drive and went on to tell us that the plaque that was awarded to us for the top Soap Box Derby City will be presented to the City Council at their October 8th meeting. He hopes some of us would be there to cheer;
Silvia Kerkorian asked for sign ups for the invocations for the next Kiwanis year; Pat Anderson touted the Chamber mixer on Thursday night at Taylor's Steak House and also the "Man About Town" banquet on October 3d (4 Kiwanians will model);
Jim Ackland thanked the club for attending interclubs and if you will attend just 1 more we will have a double (?) round robin, it's next Wednesday at noon at Glendale Gateway;
Bachy Bachmayer plugged "bucks for the tubs" for the Children's Hospital.
HAPPY, SAD & OTHER STUFF BUCKS:
Rev. John Day was appointed Sgt at Arms (he said he had experience with money in his first career). If you no shakey the secret shakers hand, (who was
Jim Ackland), you were out $1. This was also true for not wearing your K pin; Frosty Boyd told a joke (of course) which was very intelligent;
Pat Liddel put in $5 for missing something while he was on the golf course;
Mary Gant put in about $10 for a successful wine tasting and for
Clyde Hemphill's help; Silvia Kerkorian dropped in $5 for getting her new badge;
Don Corbett was happy about his new grandson (ask him if he has any pictures);
Lloyd Welch was sad that we missed his 50th Wedding Anniversary;
Daryal Gant once again tried to top Frosty's joke; Clyde Hemphill
put in some bucks as he was happy he was still alive after working all day at the wine tasting;
Jean Peters was happy she got her pearls back for her badge;
Hal Crockett dropped in $61 for his 61st Wedding Anniversary;
Ed Moulton put in $5 as he was happy for Frosty's ability to have a joke for us each week; Pres Bob put in $5 for "a wonderful year";
Dick DeGrey said that Pres Bob should be complimented as at the beginning of the year he was doing 2 jobs, one as President of the Tournament of Roses and the other as our president.
THE SWAN SONG: President Bob Wallace gave the highlights of his year as our President and gave a "Certificate of Appreciation" award to all the committee chairman and board members. Special Roses were given to the "over achievers" who did so much to make this a successful year:
Mary Gant, Clyde Hemphill, Doris Horwith, Howard Backer, Shirley De Grey, & Martha Crockett.
