OPENING: Martha maneuvered majestically the piano keys to provide us with mystical music while we munched. Ed Moulton excitedly led us in "You're A Grand Old flag

HEAD TABLE & GUESTS: An empty chair probably for Elizabeth Calcino Georgeon who led us in the flag salute from the floor, Hal Crockett read a prayer from Phil Anderson's book " The Bible According To Disney". Program chairman of the day Ed Moulton and our speakers Marlys Marsteller & Loren Marsteller were at the head table. Guests included the grandson of Tom Gilfoy, Mike Gilfoy; a guest of Ed Moulton was Don Cunningham; Bill Pickering brought wife Inez; Pat Flynn brought his wife Joyce; La Cañadan of the Year Gaylord Hammerwold was in attendance; Dick DeGrey took forever to introduce Shirley DeGrey, Hal Crockett welcomed his wife (and our piano player of the day) Martha. Our guests were then "treated" to Hi Neighbor.

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Pres. To be Jim Ackland told of his trip to the Kiwanis national convention and how charged up he was about what other clubs are doing. A small club of 35 raises over $150,000 a year at Christmas time by telling its townspeople to don't send out Christmas Cards etc. but instead give the money to Kiwanis for its many charitable works. He went on further to discuss the resolutions adopted particularly to wipe out Iodine Deficiency in children. He received generous applause. Pres Bob said the Board meeting is at his house tomorrow (Thursday) and that 2 buck chuck will be in attendance; Karl Johnson made a pitch for used eyeglasses, pull tabs off cans, and printer cartridges and said that we received a check for $123 for our last batch so keep 'em coming; Howard Backer made a pitch for Bachy for the children's hospital tubs on the tables; Jim Ackland was back to tell us about a inter-club at Glendale, noon on Friday; Ed Moulton said our club is the biggest contributor of newspapers for charity and that we raised over 50 tons last year, more paper is needed in the summer months as the kids who help are not in school.

BIRTHDAYS, ANNIVERSARIES, AND WHAT NOT: Frosty Boyd had a Birthday and joined "that $100 dollar club" and of course worked in a joke Dr. Allen Perry Sr was tripped up for his Wedding Anniversary and he told a joke too; Dr. Jeannine Sheinhorn was putting in happy, sad, and hopeful bucks so fast I couldn't keep up except she's trying to find her hamburgers she bought and wanted everyone who hasn't signed her sheet to do so to provide quicker access to her badge; Smiling Jack Dawson put in $20 for the Children's Hospital.

50/50 RAFFLE: Collected again by Karl Johnson who is next week's ticket seller.

THE PROGRAM: Introduced by Ed Moulton was Marlys Marsteller& Loren Marsteller who presented a musical program. Marlys is the daughter of Lorraine & Bob Marsteller who was a first trombonist with the L.A. Philharmonic. (Mom Lorraine was introduced from the audience). Brother and Sister these two grew up in a musical family. Marlys is, among other things, a professional flutist and she taught choral music and drama at La Cañada, San Marino, El Monte and Capistrano. She is best known as Director of the La Cañada Summer Theatre from 1982-2002. Loren is a graduate of U.S.C. and received a masters of trombone degree. He is a professor at Cal State Long Beach and has played as the principal trombonist in many famous orchestras. They played a duo with flute and trombone presenting several selections. Another hit of the program was two college age young ladies with absolutely marvelous voices who sang several show tunes. They are known as "Brass & Sassy" and are available to sing at parties or any other event. They sing everything from classical, Broadway, opera, & jazz. They can be reached at (818) 952-9482 and are a class act. A great musical program

QUESTION OF THE DAY: Is it true that we are having an accordionist because the Gants have been at the Lawrence Welk Resort?

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: "That it Will Never Come Again is What Makes Life So Sweet.. Emily Dickenson
