OPENING: Shirley DeGrey serenaded us with songs to savor that showed the serendipity of her personality. We need to find out what Ed Moulton takes to be so exuberant and bouncy as he led us thru "This Is My Country".

HEAD TABLE & GUESTS: It was "G" day (for Gant), as Daryal led the Flag Salute and Mary presented the invocation. Pres Bob Wallace, Bachy Bachmayer, and our speaker Tommy Morje filled out the head table. Guests of the club (several of whom signed an unreadable name on the guest list), were Karen Morse, Charlie Kamar, & Lorry Herbert, all guests of Diane DellaValle; Pat Flynn brought Walt Kaletsch & Mike Garrett; Ed Moulton introduced our about to be inducted member Sylvia Kerkorian; a guest of Elizabeth Calcino Georgeon was Mary Plazoay; Dick DeGrey said to give a "Howdy" to wife Shirley. This of course was followed by "HI Neighbor", bang, bang, bang on the tables.

INSTALLATION OF NEW MEMBER: Ed Moulton gave her bio (and a big hug) and then Paul Westmoreland went through the official installation of Sylvia Kerkorian. She was handed a whole pot full of stuff then immediately put to work as our Sgt. Of Arms. Which was preceded by "You're In Kiwanis Now"!

ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Pres. Reminded all of the "Celebration of the Life of Harold Arman that will take place at our meeting room on June 20th, 1-4 p.m.; Jim Ackland told of our next interclub on June 27th with Glendale and a "hoped for" interclub on July 2d with the A.M. Club; Paul Westmoreland spoke of our membership drive and Jim Ackland's team was ahead; Diane DellaValle said she had raised $300 plus for the Glendale Kiwanis Jazz Festival ticket sales: Daryal Gant updated us on future programs; Pres Bob said that Jim Ackland is our delegate to the national Kiwanis convention and that there is another convention in October and if you would like to go see him.

HAPPY, SAD, GLAD ETC. BUCKS AND BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES:
Elizabeth Calciano Georgeon put in a happy buck for her Grandson's activities; Barry Riedel was happy to get info from the A.M. club about who puts out the Lt governor's newsletter except what he really needed was not given to him until he received his newsletter (any how he was now happy):Sheila Cook had happy and sad bucks, happy for new member (and co-worker) Sylvia Kerkorian, but sad because their not going to get any work done with both at Kiwanis; Pat Anderson had a Chamber of Commerce buck to announce Thursday's mixer at St. George's Epispocal Church and also said that hubby Phil went back in the hospital to have his oil drained (or was it his lung fluid) but he's now back home and appreciates all the calls, cards, etc. and furthermore she's glad her son-in-law is back working in Long Beach and hopes he will be soon transferred to Pasadena (all this for a buck?);

NO KIWANIS PINS, DIDN'T SHAKE THE SECRET GREETER'S HAND ETC:
The Pres fined $1 (what a bargain) for not wearing your pin and not shaking Bachy Bachmayer's hand who was the Secret Greeter.

50/50 RAFFLE: Won by Jack Dawson who gave the ticket to Bachy to give the winnings to the Children's Hospital which means Bachy has to sell tickets next week.

THE PROGRAM: Tommy Morje was our speaker from the Children's Miracle Network which is the fund raising arm of Children's Hospital. Tommy has been with the network for 4 1/2 years and is in charge of corporate fund raising which includes Costco, Wal-mart, Kiwanis and others. He said our club was one of the top givers in Kiwanis thanks to Bachy's efforts, but they still need lots more bucks. In two weeks they will open a new research tower thanks mostly to the donations of one individual. He said they hope to cure children's cancer in 15 years or less. They also have underway a $500 million fund raising program to build a children's medical network. Where does all the money go? How about $99,000 a month to support the pediatric center; $3.8 million for the electric bill alone; $5.3 million to run the entire hospital for 1 week. Last year they had over 550,000 patient vists, children come from all over the nation and some from other countries. He then showed a short video of the goings on at the hospital.

The bulletin is usually mailed by bulk mail instead of first class to save money.  However, often times the bulk mail is as much as a week late.  We need to know if the majority of you want to read the bulletin on the web-site. The bulletin will be mailed to the rest of you by first class mail.  If you can read the bulletin on the web page and do not want it mailed to you, please notify Jeb Long by e-mail:  jeblong@earthlink.netOtherwise, your bulletin will be mailed to you.
