PRE-OPENING: Prior to the start of the meeting Daryal Gant gave a dissertation on how important it is for all to partake in the BNI (Bold New Initiative) program. By now all members have received their packets & should have appointed a team captain and chosen a name for their team. If you haven't, do it now. Bring in New Members and support your team.

OPENING: Music fit for a Queen (and her court) was produced at the piano by the nimble fingers of Shirley DeGrey . "Mr. K" Ed Moulton led us with vigor in the singing of "God Bless America".

HEAD TABLE & GUESTS: Our Flag Salute was led by Bachy Bachmayer followed by an invocation from Jim Ackland. On the other side of the head table were Mary Gant (today's program chairman) and Tournament of Roses Officials and/or chaperones Brenda Galloway, Tim O'Neal & Chuck Adams.
Guests were many in a sea of red as Tournament of Roses supporters and friends turned out to see the Rose Queen & her court. Dr. Allan Perry Jr. introduced hi swife Helen, daughter Jackie and her friend Roxanna Kahmi, Howard Backer introduced his guest Barbara Smith as well as his wife Rhoda and Harriet Hammons. A guest of Ed Moulton was Katy Bassett, and Ken Lowe had us greet Key Clubbers from LCHS Rustin Zomorodi & Nathalie Nucho. Frosty Boyd brought his brother Dale Boyd and said they both have the same barber. Bill Watts brought his wife Margaret, as did Bill Pickering with his wife Inez. Sookie Mathews was a guest of the club and Patsy Christianson. Also joining us for lunch was Frances Hill from the A.M. Club. A rousing "Hi Neighbor" saluted our guests

ANNOUNCEMENTS: Thanks to all for supporting dollars for Kiev was given by Joel Smith, Daryal Gant previewed upcoming programs and announced that the previously scheduled March 12th program "The State of Our City" was canceled, as Jerry Fulwood has to get to Wash. D.C., Sheila Cook said she was passing around a sign up sheet for invocations, Howard Backer urged all members to pay up their dues & other bills as we need the money NOW! A plea for bucks for the table tubs to benefit the Children's Hospital was made by Bachy Bachmayer., Jim Ackland congratulated Jerry Fulwood & Paul Bobzin for their recent inter-club that allowed them to take off that nasty red sticker off their badges, Jim also said that we have only 14 members signed up for the Governor's visit on Sunday March 9th and we need more, (this also counts as an inter-club) we must beat the A.M. club in number of attendees, treat your wife to Sunday lunch. The Pres also reminded all of the upcoming Wine Dinner at Brookside on April 3rd. Ya'll Come & bring a friend or your mother-in-law or whomever.

SECRET GREETER: Once again it's still a secret & no fines for no pins made us grin.

HAPPY, SAD & WHATEVER BUCKS: Confusing this writer, Birthdays & Anniversary's were included here as Clyde Hemphill celebrated his 48th wedding anniversary and joined the Century Club, Sheila Cook also celebrated an anniversary and also joined the Century Club. Paul Bobzin celebrated birthdays & anniversaries by also joining the Century Club (a triple play), Jennifer Irizarry had a sad buck as she was leaving the club and said how happy she was here, Daryal Gant gave a happy (2 bucks only?) for his wife Mary's outstanding job in putting together our program, Howard Backer kicked in $10 for each member of the court of Roses here today, Pat Anderson gave happy bucks for it was the first time in 6 years that her daughter and husband didn't have to pay taxes, Harriet Hammons gave such a prolonged dissertation that I couldn't begin to put it all down other than the fact she is a first time grandma (not the multiple grandma as previously reported), Jack Dawson gave a sad buck as he reported that Hal Thomas had open heart surgery but is doing O.K. now and is at Glendale Adventist Hospital, Frosty Boyd gave a happy buck for the ladies of the court and of course a joke, Howard Backer struck again and kicked in happy bucks for Barbara Smith's visit with us, not to be outdone Hal Arman put in happy bucks for being a great grandfather for the first time. Clyde Hemphill put in bucks for Karl Johnson agreeing to be the new collector of used eyeglasses, computer ink cartridges, and stuff. Dick DeGrey took the podium and gave us a prolonged blow-by-blow description of Hal Thomas's 5-way bypass surgery right down to how much oxygen he used. All these bucks were collected by long time Sgt. At Arms Karl Johnson who says, "please bring in a new member."

PROGRAM: A fun program as we were able to hear from the Queen and each of the T or R princesses's as they told us where they are in school, what their future plans are and the fun experiences they have had. This was their 135th public appearance. What a class act & the Queen, boy was she eloquent as well as a doll.

CLOSING: A Hearty "Hail Kiwanis" led by Mr. Ed
