ANNOUNCEMENTS: Howard Backer announced that the school board election forum will be held tonight and Harold Arman will be the Master of Ceremonies and he has made the commitment that he will use only two minutes of time. (How many times?) We decided to go just to audit this commitment. Ed Moulton encouraged us to participate in the Travel Adventure Social at Conrad's on October 27 at 5:15 PM. Conrad's has given us an ad for the series and we can show our appreciation to them as well as have fun by attending the patio party which includes salad, entree, beverage, dessert, tax, and tip for $20 each. Call Ed or Pat if you can attend. Howard Backer read a letter of appreciation from the Descanso Gardens Guild thanking us for our $4,000 contribution to their Educate The Children Program. HAPPY, SAD AND BUSINESS BUCKS: Sheila Cook invited us to participate in some of the new opportunities at Citizens Bank. Bill Scherkey proudly reported on his new grandson and his daughter and their good health after his visit to Minneapolis where Melinda remains for another week of cold weather. Frosty Boyd read a positive report on the terrorists attacks in comparison to what might have been if there had been a high success level against their targets. (74,280 potential deaths and 93% survived). Jim Edwards was thankful for his wonderful trip to Notre Dame but unhappy with the U.S.C. outcome. Pat Liddell was happy that his son was having an interview with the Pasadena Fire Department which he wants to join. Ann Doneen was happy to get her lap top repaired by Tom but then it later had a mother board failure and is gone for sure. Have you ever seen the speed of her typing on her lap top? I think she deserves a new one. SPECIAL RECOGNITION PROGRAMS: Pres Pat made a report on her stand up attendance with 400 people lunching at the Country Club who were there to honor business leaders of our community. Our Doris Horwith was selected and honored as BUSINESS WOMAN OF THE YEAR by Carol Liu who hosted the meeting along with Jack Scott. We gave Doris A long stem red rose and a standing ovation and she joined the Century Club in appreciation. Two TERRIFIC KIDS from LCE were each recognized by Pres Pat with reasons for their selection which made the introductions by Pat Flynn even more appreciated when he presented their awards. PROGRAM: Jim Ackland introduced V.E. "Bill" Haloulakos a Scientist, Engineer, National Distinguished Lecturer and Educator. Loma Linda is now famous for Proton Therapy for cancer and macular degeneration treatment by burning out the cancer cells without destroying the surrounding tissue. It was Buck Rogers in the thirties and now a science. Thank God. NEXT WEEK: PROGRAM - WILD LIFE ON WHEELS WITH SUSIE.
