Gigi Schlueter- led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Brian Fuller- offered the opening prayer.

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Jim Phillips- auctioning off two Rose Parade bleacher sitting tickets with a value of $85 each. Daryal Gant had hip replacement surgery and is recovering.

Cory Stevens- Annual Holiday Party being held on Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Angeles National Golf Course. Sign-up sheet being circulated.

Howard Backer- Kiwanis doctor program donation containers on tables. Please donate.

Karl Johnson- Golf Tournament meeting this evening at 6:00 p.m. in his office.

Linda Magarian- We now have 91 members and an application from one new member.

Pat Anderson- La Canada Chamber having “Festival of Lights” lighting ceremony tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. in Memorial Park.

Matt Regan- Toy drive has exceeded original goal and has been expanded to four families. Please be generous with your donation.

Pat Flynn- Needs two volunteers to read to the students at Union Street School.

Frosty Boyd- SLA (Sick, Lame and Ailing) report: Hal Thomas and Dick DeGray are doing fine. Bob Wallace’s wife is adjusting. Nick Berkuta is enjoying his second childhood on his “scooter”.

Nick Berkuta- International Presidents luncheon on December 30, 2009 hosted by Pasadena Kiwanis Club and being held at the University Club. Sign-up sheet being circulated.

“Kudos” to Clyde Hemphill for his contributions at the Glenola park lighting workday; Carl Christensen for his help at the “Thanksgiving Run”; Frosty Boyd for calling and asking how I was doing.

Howard Baker and Mike Leininger received a “Welcome Back” song led by Ed Moulton.

Norm Johnson and Matt Regan celebrating birthdays. Norm with his donation joined the “Century Club.

Pat Flynn  had highest bid of $175 for two Rose Parade tickets.

Frosty Boyd- “Frosty’ Challenge” included Wendy Alan Smith and Carl Christensen. Challenge won by Wendy with her joke’s punch line, “Your horse called”.

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Nick and Mary Ann Berkuta- because Nick can get around faster and easier on his “scooter” instead of crutches.

Clyde Hemphill- Nicks broken ankle an example of what NOT to do when you volunteer in the community.

Howard Backer- ten day Caribbean cruise and a stay at the beautiful Awani Lodge in Yosemite National Park.

George Lutes- Thanksgiving spent in Austin Texas watching Balyor play Texas at the new Dallas Cowboys stadium.

Jeb Long- Texas Longhorns won another football game.

Brian Fuller- USC victory over UCLA; however his girlfriend who is a UCLA grad was not as happy as Brian.

Skip Boyd- USC putting exclamation point on victory with touchdown pass late in fourth quarter.

Ellie Wildermuth- Celebrating Thanksgiving on the “Delta” with family and friends.

 

 

THE PROGRAM

 Jim Stratton program chair introduced Ms. Rhonda Chavez from the “Tournament of Roses” organization. She spoke about the history, structure and organization of the rose parade.

 

The theme of the 2010 Rose Parade is “A Cut above the Rest”. The Grand Marshall is Captain “Sully” Sullenberger the US Airlines pilot who safely landed his crippled aircraft on the Hudson River with everyone on board surviving the ordeal. 

 

This is the 121st. Rose Parade, It is also the 96th. Annual Rose Bowl football game. There will be 39 floats and 50 plus marching bands. This will also be the first year to have a blind marching band in attendance.

 

 

OTHER STUFF

 

Winner of the 50/50 Drawing: Jack Bilheimer (Glendale Kiwanis) donated winnings back to Kiwanis Club of La Canada.
