WEEKLY MEETING HIGHLIGHTS

 

MUSIC

 ED MOULTON & TOM BURROUGHS gave rousing renditions of God Bless America, Hi Neighbor, Welcome Back (to LLOYD WELCH & DORIS HORWITH) and Hail Kiwanis.

 

OPENING

CARL CHRISTENSEN gave special thanks to WENDY SMITH for all of her efforts in fundraising for the fire victims.

Happy Anniversary to LLOYD WELCH.  

 

 

 

 

 

ANNOUNCEMENTS

MARY GANT announced the Wine & Gourmet Food event this Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 in Memorial Park. Please come at 8:00 am that morning to help set up. You will be done between 11:00 – 12:30 so you can go home and change. This year, there are 24 restaurants participating and 90 wines and 20 beers. Trader Joe’s donated non alcoholic beverages and Ralphs donated water.

 PAT FLYNN The reading program in starting up again at the first of October. It’s the second grade at Union Elementary School. The first day is Oct 1st. Meet in the Descanso parking lot at 10:00 am to carpool down to the school.

 PAT ANDERSON 1. The Chamber Mixer is September 17th from 5:30 – 7:30 at Verdugo Hills Hospital. Attire is Western wear. 2. Saturday, Sept, 19th from 5:00 – 8:30 is An Evening of Entertainment at Memorial Park. It is a firefighter benefit. It is free to attend but donations are accepted. 3. The Play it Safe Emergency Expo is Saturday, Sept. 26th from 10:00 – 3:00 at Verdugo Hills Hospital.

 HOWARD BACKER asks that we put dinero in the doctor’s cans on the tables.

 

MEGAN NORDVEDT announced the Electronic Waste collection Event on Sunday, Sept. 27th from 9:00 to 3:00 at the Community Center. They will take any electronic discards.

 

BRIAN FULLER will be the newest person to coordinate reporters beginning October.

 

BILL SHERKEY says he began with 2000 tickets for the Wine and Gourmet Food event. He still has some left. If anyone would like more please either call or email him.

 

NICK BERKUTA passed around a sign-up sheet for the last interclub of the year. It is for the AM LCF group.  

 

DIANE DELLA VALLE reminded us that we are dark on September 30th because the installation is that night at 6:00 at the Oakmont Country Club.

 

WENDY SMITH asks that we donate $18 for a turkey (or more!). Our club has committed to supplying the Midnight Mission with turkeys for Thanksgiving. We also need 4 corporate sponsors to donate $300 each. 

 

FROSTY BOYD and the SLA committee reports everyone is status quo.

MARY GANT--$5 happy bucks for Boon Sieng being here, $1 happy buck for the UCLA win, and $2 sad bucks for the quarterback’s jaw getting broken.

 

AL RESTIVO--$1 happy buck for being appointed by the Bishop of Peoria.

 

BRIAN FULLER--$1 happy buck for the Trojans win and $1 ‘unsure’ buck for having to go to the Bruin game with a date this week.

 

HARRIET HAMMONS--$1 happy buck for Tom joining Kiwanis, she also knows of a guest house available for rent.

BILL WATTS introduced the guest speaker, Joyce Park. She is an educational film maker from India. She tested a new trailer on us. It was about St. Francis’ life. It was entitled The Battle for Damietta. It will be aired on PBS.
