THE PROGRAM

Jennifer Berger,
who was
sponsored by Nick
Berkuta, gave
a Craft Talk outlining her life history and experiences.
Jennifer moved to Pasadena from Chicago shortly after the
Chicago blizzard of 1980 with her family. She attended Chandler
School and then
Westridge. After
high school graduation, she attended college at Duke University
in North Carolina, where she became an avid basketball fan and
majored in English. She also became a reporter/writer for the
school newspaper and developed an interest in nonprofits after
getting involved with her sorority. She began her nonprofit
career in Washington, D.C., where she worked for five years.
After moving back to
Southern California,
she worked at
USC in
development and attended the
USC School of
Policy, Planning & Development, receiving an
MPA in 2004.
Currently, she is Director of Annual Giving and Special Events
for the
Verdugo Hills Hospital Foundation.
Jennifer
is married and has two girls, ages 4 and 7. Her husband, John,
works in Commercial Real Estate. Jennifer and her husband are
very active at Chandler School
and Jennifer also serves in leadership roles with
Kidspace
Children's Museum Circle of Friends. Professionally, Jennifer is active, and
serves on committees, with the
Los
Angeles
chapter of the Association of
Fundraising
Professionals. Jennifer
enjoys volunteering, reading, walking, traveling, book clubs,
and has been known to crash a few cars. Her passion is reading
People Magazine with a nice glass of white wine. She says she
is not “crafty” and, therefore, likes to delegate to others more
talented in this area.
Jennifer received a warm welcome and applause from her fellow
Kiwanians.

Jim Phillips
and Peggy Touchstone’s production of “Dancing with
Kiwanis” was debuted at the meeting and stared
Jim
Phillips as Host
Jim Bergeron, Mary Gant as Co-Host Samantha Harris-Gant,
Cory Stevens as Judge Cory-Ann Inaba, Paul
Westmoreland as Judge Len Westmoreland, and Bill Scherkey
as Judge Bruno Scherkey. Tom Burrows once again
demonstrated his musical versatility by providing piano
accompaniment to the production.
Megan Nordvedt warmed up the crowd with a rousing “Hokey
Pokey.” The judges scored dance numbers by Gigi and Jim
Schlueter performing the Waltz, Emelita Bituin and
Limwell Tiu performing the Jive, and Nick Berkuta and
DeeGee (Daryal) Gant performing the “Akie Breakie.”

Daryal and Nick

After a critical critique by the judges, the audience awarded
the prize to Emilita and Limwell. The show demonstrated
the fun of belonging to a dance club like the Stardusters. For
more information in becoming a member of Stardusters or
receiving a guest invitation to one of their dances, contact
Gigi and Jim Schlueter.
