THE PROGRAM
Jim
Stratton, Superintendent of La Canada Schools addressed
Kiwanis Club of La Canada recently at the annual "Apple For The
Teacher Day." Stratton introduced an exceptional line up of
administrators, many of whom are new to the La Canada Unified
School District. Stratton described the exceptional rankings of
La Canada Schools Standards Testing. In Math grades 2-7 La
Canada ranks 1st and 2nd in the State. In English almost every
grade level ranks 1st, 2nd, or 3rd in the State. Stratton
said,”behind all of this success are very talented, creative and
intelligent teachers. For more information about the academic
achievements of the the La Canada Unified School District you
can visit their website and read the Superintendent's Column
written monthly by Stratton which contains important updates for
the community.
Jim
Stratton welcomed new three Board Members who were in
attendance; Susan Boyd, Cindy Wilcox and Jeanne Broberg.
He announced Principals Elissa De Angelo of La Canada
Elementary, Anain Wenn of Palm Crest Elementary and
Donna Robinson of Paradise Canyon Elementary.
"Thank you
for the warmth and friendliness that permeates the room," said
Elissa De Angelo of La Canada Elementary. "Your Apple For
The Teacher is a wonderful way to start the school year and it
stays with us for along time.” She continued, "what impresses me
most about LCE is the diversity, interests and talents of the
students which reflect the diversity, interests and talents of
the parents in the community.” Angelo introduced new teacher
Andrea Stalder who will be teaching Kindergarten.
PCE
Principal Donna Robinson expressed enthusiasm for their
new Multi-Purpose room. "It will enable students to participate
in P.E. during the rainy season and on hot days. Additionally,
parents and students will be able to use this larger space for
Assemblies and Spirit Rallies." Robinson also discussed the
ASSETS Program, which nurtures students, helping them to feel
welcome and comfortable at school. “I want success for every
student," she said. Robinson then introduced new teacher
Laura Eng who will be teaching Special Education.
PCR
Principal Anais Wenn acknowledged and thanked Kiwanis for the
Terrific Kids program. “It has made a huge difference in our
school," she stated. "Our students are so excited when they are
selected as Terrific Kids and then invited, along with their
parents, to a Kiwanis Luncheon to be honored for their
achievements.” Kiwanis's Terrific Kids is a student recognition
program that promotes character development, self-esteem, and
perseverance. Students work with their classroom teacher and
establish goals to improve behavior, peer relationships,
attendance, or schoolwork. Wenn announced three new teachers

special it is to have lunch in the middle of the day with
silverware, china and glasses. We thank you for having us
Kiwanis!” She continued by praising the new Builders Club, which
was begun last year at the High School by Kiwanian’s Brian
Schwartz and Rolando Morales with the support of
Daryal and Mary Gant.
The Builders
Club is the largest service organization for middle school and
junior high students, with more than 40,000 members worldwide.

providing members with opportunities to perform service, build
character, and develop leadership. The La Canada High School
Builders club now has officers, raised money and has donated to
charity. Dr. Luzak announced two new teachers Stacy
Yung; Grade 8 Social Science and Christine Werner;

discussing the successful PAL mentor program saying "students
had been doing exceptionally well in and out of the classroom."
