Three new members were inducted. Linda Magarian and her helpers Megan Nordvedt, Tom Slaughter and Rolando Morales presented the new members and their sponsors.

Linda presented them with certificates, badges, membership books and requirements. She read the objectives of being in Kiwanis. Each of the sponsors pinned the new member.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Mary Gant—La Canada Tournament of Roses is a volunteer organization working year-round to build the float. The Kiwanis donate $1000 a year. She gave us a “Fine Job Award” certificate. Their happy hours are every 4th Friday. This Friday the 27th it will be held at Jim Borham’s home on Gould.

Linda Magarian—we are having our first happy hour March 6th at the Fat Dog. It is at 2265 Honolulu at 5:00.

Pat Flynn—tomorrow they are going to Union Avenue School for a reading class. Meet in the parking lot at 10:00.

1. The business directory is in the mail. Let her know if you want extra copies.

2. There is a new restaurant in town called The Garden Grill. They are having a ribbon cutting this Saturday at 1:30. It is located at Ocean View and Foothill. Beatrice Cirar is their ambassador. They have amazing healthy Middle Eastern cuisine.

3. There will be a dedication of the new Descanso Trail Link this Saturday at 11:00. They are trying to make a trail surrounding all of La Canada. After this, there is only one link left to be completed.

Frosty Boyd—SLA committee—Dick DeGray enjoys talking to people. Hal Thomas also likes talking to people. Jo Ackland is doing well.

Nick Berkuta—Ed Moulton appreciation day is March 25th. If you’d like to donate, we have someone who will match your donation. It goes to the foundation so is tax deductable.

Wendy Smith went to the building next to Pepe’s. There is a nice spa there.

Mark Alexander—bid 5 cents for the Dinuba bag. He thinks that’s all it’s worth.

Pat Anderson—$2 in hopes that the incumbents will win this election.

Daryal Gant—$5 bid for the Dinuba bag.

George Lutes—$5 for letting him back in.

Clyde Hemphill—joined the century club for celebrating his 54th wedding anniversary.   

 

THE PROGRAM

Dr. Lance Lee, the director of the new Stroke Center at Glendale Adventist Medical Center spoke about stroke prevention. They are having a guest speaker—Jill Bolte-Taylor at the Alex on March 2nd. It is free. But you must reserve your seat now as only 700 guests will be allowed in. She wrote a book about the stroke she had at age 37. At the end of this week, they are having a run/walk that is a fund raiser for the stroke center.
