OPENING

Piano tunes by Tom Burrows. Ed Moulton led us in This is My Country, Welcome Back, Hi Neighbor, and On Kiwanis.

The Flag Salute was led by Rolando Morales. The invocation was given by Ken Lowe.

Fresh from his personal appearance at the Sundance Film Festival,   President Carl Christensen  opened today’s meeting.

 

 

THE GLENDALE CLUB was introduced and individual members introduced themselves, this was inter-branch day.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

Nick Berkuta announced Ed Moulton Appreciation Day will be held on March 25, at Van de Kamp Hall, and passed a sign-up sheet out.  Other clubs have been notified,

Pat Anderson reminded members that Miss LaCanada Flintridge and her Royal Court will visit our club on February 11, and that The Chamber Mixer of Feb 19, will be at the Lanterman House, a first.

Pat Flynn encouraged members to join in the school reading program on Thursdays; reading to students in Los Angeles area schools.

Mike Leininger reminded members of the City Council Candidates Forum on Feb 23 at Flintridge Prep

 

Bob Wallace reminded members of the Mid Year Conference, Feb 28, in San Diego

 

Frosty Boyd reminded members of our continuing drive to “Save Kids Lives”, by putting donations into the cans on the tables.

In addition to the Glendale Club Members, a large numbers of guests enjoyed this day’s meeting.  Long time member Dick DeGray was recognized, Dick played a key role in the   development of the SR71 aircraft, (the subject of this days program).

The Frosty Challenge

 

Competition was fierce in  “The Frosty Challenge”, Frosty Boyd opened with a story, Clyde Hemphill tried to better him, but Bill Watts took received the loudest applause,

 

   

 

THE PROGRAM

 

Robert Mehnert , Director and Cinematographer of documentaries films and commercials, and author, is a professor of cinematography at Art Center of Design, and resident of La Canada, was speaker.  His subject was The Super Secret SR-71 aircraft.

He told the background of the aircraft, which covered the period of 1966 to 1990.  In 1974 he conceived the idea of make a film of the Lockheed aircraft, (which, at that time Dick DeGrey was Program Manager). He described the SR-71, the worlds fastest, highest flying plane, which was long a top secret, as a great part of “the era of aviation”. A short film followed a descriptive history and explanation of details. It was “slide ruler” generated aircraft and not computer generated.  Click on Picture of Blackbird to see video:
