ANNOUNCEMENTS
Nick Berkuta
reminded us of the upcoming inner club meeting for Tuesday, Dec.
30th at the University Club of Pasadena. Nick sent
around a sign up sheet.
Diane Della
Valle announced that two
weeks ago Cory Stevens had been nominated to fill a
vacant seat on the Board. Since there were no other nominations
to fill the vacancy Diane took a vote from the membership
present and Cory was unanimously voted to fill that particular
position.
Mike Leininger
announced that the day to feed the floaters was set for Dec. 30th
at 6:45 pm. He sent a sign up sheet around for volunteers.
Jack Dawson
announced that Ed and Connie Moulton have moved into the
Assisted Living section of their current housing. Julia
Thomas’ Memorial Service will be tomorrow (12-11-08) at 3
pm, at the La Canada Methodist Church.
Cory Stevens
announced that our clubs Holiday Party is this Sunday at 5 PM.
The party is being held at Carl and Irene’s Studio. This year
we will be paying for our dinner at the door. The price is
$35.00 per person, cash or check only. Cory has sent out an
e-mail to all of the members giving them information about our
Holiday Party.
Howard Backer
reminded us to place a donation of money into the cans on the
tables for the Cal-Nev-Ha Kiwanis Doctors Project.
Doris Horwith
announced that she was given an early Christmas Present. She
had been driving south on Angeles Crest Highway when she was
stopped by a Sheriff’s Deputy. The Deputy asked for her
driver’s license and informed her that he clocked her going 60
mph on Angeles Crest. When the Deputy returned to her car, she
thought she was going to be handed a ticket but instead, the
Deputy handed her back her driver’s license and said he would
not give her a ticket because she is the same age as his mother
who is also a speedy driver.
Mary Gant
announced that when a member of the club passes away a donation
of $100.00 is donated to the family’s charity of choice. A
donation will be made in Julia Thomas’s name to a charity her
family selects.
Pat Anderson
announced that she would like for the Kiwanis Club to get a
table for the Chamber of Commerce Installation and the
announcement for the La Canada Queen and her court on January 15th.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
None
THE PROGRAM
Bill Watts
introduced Chuck Sambar who gave us a slide presentation
on Vietnam, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Nagasaki. Chuck, a tour
guide, has taken several groups of people to these areas and was
very informative about the countries he visited. The slide show
gave a nice visual presentation of these particular areas of
interest.

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS
Lloyd Welch
is happy that after seeing five different doctors following his
fall after the meeting last week, not one doctor thought he
needed to have surgery.

Jim Ackland
is sad that Fran Boyd has suffered a stroke.

Jack Dawson
is happy that Matt Regan is his financial advisor.

Doris Horwith
is happy that she was able to take a trip to South America.

Matt Regan
is happy over the birth of his son.

Bob Wallace
is thankful to Tom Slaughter for giving him a Kiwanian
discount when he cleaned Bob’s computer.

Mary Gant
is happy that the football season is over and she will not have
to watch UCLA lose again.

Diane Della
Valle was sad that she was
called to Jury Duty and was unable to attend last week’s meeting
especially since she had guests attending and she was not able
to be there

Tom Burrows
is happy that his grand-daughter, Michele, is a finalist
on the Miss La Canada Court.

Mark Alexander
is happy for the USC win over UCLA this past Saturday and that
USC will be going to the Rosebowl on New Year’s Day.

Linda Magarian
is happy that Pat Flynn and Wendy Smith were able
to attend the Literacy Program.

Clyde Hemphill
is happy that the Rutgers football team is going to a Bowl Game.

Howard Backer
is Happy for the University of Missouri’s Offensive Team, but
sad for their terrible defensive team.

Emilita Bituin
is happy for all of the Happy Bucks that have been given today.

Jeb Long
is sad that even though Texas beat Oklahoma 45 to 35 that Texas
is #3 team while Oklahoma is the #2 team in the nation.
However, the good news is that Texas will not have to play
against Florida in the BSC championship game.
