THE PROGRAM

                 Bill Watts                                                        Eric Young

Bill Watts introduced the speaker, Eric YoungMr. Young has been a Special Educator for 18 years, the past nine spent as Assistant Technology Assessor to the LA School District. He is also an Adjunct Professor at National University, teaching a course on technology for disabled children.

His presentation centered on the technological advances made in augmentative and alternative communication techniques to Special Needs children.  Prior to the mid 1970’s little had been done to facilitate these needs.  In 1990, The Americans with Disabilities Act highlighted the needs and, especially since 1997, technology has accelerated.  Mr. Young explained several devices such as pencils, keyboards, and voice recognition software.
