ANNOUNCEMENTS

Flu shots were provided after the meeting by the Flintridge Pharmacy.  A special thanks to Norm Johnson for making these arrangements.

John Parady announced he is moving to Bonsall (near Fallbrook) and will be leaving the club. 

The La Canada YMCA is conducting a community survey.  To get a free one-time pass to the YMCA, go on line to www.ymcacc.org to complete and submit the survey.

Nick Berkuta announced that ten club members attended an Interclub Meeting with the Glendale Kiwanis last Friday.  Adam Schiff, 29th District United States Representative, was the guest speaker.  Nick will issue the schedule for future Interclub Meetings.

Mary Gant announced that a $200 gift certificate for Fast Frame remains from the Wine and Gourmet Food Tasting.  She is selling the certificate for $90.

Mary Gant will be hosting an art and jewelry sale at her home on November 7th, from 3 to 7.  Ten percent of the proceeds will go to Kiwanis and another 10% will be donated to the LCF Tournament of Roses.

Jim Acklund announced that Frosty Boyd, Dick DeGrey and Hal Thomas were unable to attend the meeting, as they are caring for their wives who are ill.

Mark Alexander reported that the traffic synchronizing of Foothill Blvd. signals are not yet complete.

Pat Anderson announced two Chamber of Commerce events:  Josalyn Salon ribbon cutting tonight, and Sunday, November 9, ribbon cutting for the La Canada Congressional Church (previously the Church of the Lighted Window) at 11 a.m.

Dave Spence urged club members to vote No on Measure R, which increases sales tax by one-half cent for 30 years.

Howard Backer reminded members to support the Doctors Program.

 

SPECIAL PRESENTATION

Jack Dawson presented an album to Diane DellaValle celebrating her year as Club President.  Paul Westmoreland and Jeb Long assembled photos and newspaper clippings for the album.  Club members applauded her contributions.

 

Bill Watts and Rolando Morales undertook The Frosty Challenge.

 

THE PROGRAM

Bill Watts introduced the special presentation made by David Weeshoff of Heal the Bay. Issues that threaten our environment were highlighted, especially the problem of disposed plastics that end up in landfills or the oceans.  Additional information can be found at www.healthebay.org.

Jeb Long -  If Jeb had been at the meeting, he would have given a happy buck for University of Texas, (the number 1 football team) winning their game last Saturday.
