The Prez sez . . .

 
President Carl brought the meeting to order at 12:25pm. Carl announced the Regional Conference scheduled for November 1st.,

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Linda Magarian and Joel Smith promoted the upcoming Oktoberfest Celebration by doing a German Pokka.

 

Daryal Gant promoted the Adopt-A-Duck event (10-18-08) and asked for duck purchasers on the spot. Past Lieutenant Governor, Vic Ledgerton (Glendale Kiwanis) was dressed up as a duck to help set the mood.

 

Jim Reynolds asked fellow Kiwanians to bring in their old newspapers for recycling.

Pam Feterl asked for old ink cartridges for recycling.

Mary Gant, Mike Leininger, and Gigi Schlueter spoke about the California Assembly Certificates for the retiring board members.

THE PROGRAM

Guest speaker (brought in by Bill Watts) was Penny Alfonso. She is a volunteer for Operation Gratitude, which is a (California) non-profit organization that prepares and ships care packages to our troops in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Korea, Africa, Kuwait, Bahrain, the UAE, Guantanamo Bay and onto ships in international waters.  A short video was presented on the organization.

Mary Gant – Happy (for webcams) so that her grandsons can communicate.  One is in La Crescenta, CA and one in Saudi Arabia.
