Steve Hagerty asked all Directors and Officers to stand and handled a brief meeting to determine the lunch status for December 26th and January 2nd.  The vote was unanimous to be “dark” for those two dates.  And, because Jim Stratton needed to attend a board meeting to get his permanent badge, he has now satisfied that one more step.

PROGRAM:

Lorine Stoikowitz                  Laura Morgan

Nick Berkuta introduced our speakers Laura Morgan from Glendale Memorial Hospital and Lorine Stoikowitz from Gentle Transitions regarding caring for the aging loved one.  There are various myths and facts about aging. Some myths are they are generally alone and lonely, sick, frail and dependent on others. They are depressed and become more difficult and rigid with advancing years. Alternately, some facts are they are a very diverse group and most maintain close contact with family, however, live independently.  Community-dwelling older adults have lower rates of diagnosable depression than younger adults. Laura told several stories about elder abuse which was startling. Laura asked Joan Peters to speak about her experience in finding the correct facility for your loved one. They passed out pamphlets and stayed after the meeting to answer questions, and, of course, were presented the coveted Kiwanis mug.

Closing Song: “Come on Kiwanis” led by Ed Moulton and Tom Burrows.
