ANNOUNCEMENTS

Dr. Mike Leininger said he has left over hamburgers and hot dogs from the Disaster Preparedness Fair last Sunday and will advise the cost in a few days.  Howard Backer reminded everyone about the Duck Splash on October 20th at Verdugo Park.  Pat Anderson announced there will be a Chamber ribbon cutting soon at a new business called Fancy That; the next mixer is on October 18th at the Mayor’s park honoring past mayors and the Elegant Evening still has spaces available for the October 20th event. On that note, Pat Flynn purchased two tickets, was only going to be able to use one so offered it to a member.  Daryal immediately spoke up and he and Mary will now be taking their daughter.  Patsy announced that there will be a Kiwanis night at a Clippers basketball game in February. Sheree presented Diane with a crown to use for the 50/50 raffle instead of the bedpan.

SLAFrosty reports that Dick DeGrey has been able to get out once in a while but still likes to receive phone calls and Jeb’s daughter-in-law, Vicki, is responding well to her treatments.

THE PROGRAM:

SAN GABRIEL VALLEY FOUNDATION FOR DENTAL HEALTH

Nick Berkuta introduced Edith Valadez who gave background about this non-profit organization in La Puente that provides quality dental care to financially disadvantaged children. They offer a patient/family education program with a strong emphasis on preventive dentistry that is designed to minimize children’s dental diseases.  Among one of the concerns for the infants is bottle syndrome which causes deformed teeth. Ms. Valadez graciously answered questions and shared her enthusiasm for this positive goaled environment.  Nick presented her with the Kiwanis mug with deepest appreciation for her participation.

 FACTS AND FICTION

Music:  piano tunes by Tom Burrows, Ed Mouton and Jack Dawson leading us inColumbia the Gem of the Ocean” at the beginning of the meeting and “Come On Kiwanis” at the conclusion.
