The Prez
sez . . .

Prez Steve Hagerty welcomed
our guests (there were quite a few) and then passed out
accolades for the outstanding Wine and Gourmet Food Tasting
event on Sunday. The Prez said if "success" is measured
by the amount of enjoyment, then Sunday was very successful. If
we only knew who ordered the perfect weather ....
ANNOUNCEMENTS
The installation dinner for Diane
DellaValle and our 2007/2008 officers and directors is
coming up on September 26th. Paul Westmoreland was
passing around the sign-up sheet again.
Gigi Schleuter thanked all
those who helped with the Silent Auction on Sunday. Special
thanks to new member Pam Feterl who donated an Alaskan
Cruise that brought a bid of $2,000.
The InterClub planned for this
Thursday evening has been cancelled and rescheduled for next
Thursday evening. Diane DellaValle will be notifying
you if you were signed up to attend.
Harriet Hammons made several
LCF Chamber announcements. The Business Expo is on Thursday
afternoon/evening (September 13). The Mixer for next Thursday
has a change of venue and will be held at the La Caņada Country
Club. Then Harriet put on her fundraiser hat and
announced she has $5 special shopper invitations for October
13th at Macys. The $5 will be used for our Children's Reading
Program.
Pam Feterl, our new Travel
Adventure Committe Chair, asked to watch for our tickets to
arrive in the mail next week. The mailing to our own club
subscribers has already gone out. Ad space is currently being
sold for the Travel Adventure brochure that is passed out at
each of the five programs.
Anthony Rinaldi, a Kiwanian
from the Tarzana Club, put in a plug for their upcoming golf
tournament on October 7 and their November 17th Casino Night.
Frosty gave us his SLA
update. It was great to have Lloyd Welch and Patsy
Christanson back with us and off of Frosty's list!
THE PROGRAM
Tom Burroughs once again did
a great job finding the Talent in our club. Tom started
off our Club Talent Show program with his ukulele and a funny
song, Ain't We Crazy. You had to listen fast to catch
all the craziness!
The long awaited Mystery Guest was Daryal
Gant who was introduced as the Milton Burl of Dinuba.
Daryal told a few of the stories he heard told by our
Immediate Past International Kiwanis President. Daryal
is a good raconteur and kept us laughing as he kept our
attention.
Next up ... the Descanso Sisters. Dressed in
slinky black, they "sang" Baby Love and also Stop in
the Name of Love. Sometimes it looked like the sisters,
Mary, Diane, and Harriet, were talented
ventriloquists.

After a warm-up, Let Me Call You Sweetheart
was performed by Frosty Boyd on the saw, Bob
Wallace on the gut bucket, and Tom Burroughs on the
keyboard.
We had tears in our eyes and Ed has his eyes
on Connie as Ed Moulton sang the Hawaiian
Wedding Song.

Bachy Bachmayer sang a funny story
about Seven Beers With the Wrong Woman.

Then, with great
stage presence, Sheree Ingram sang Teach Me Tonight;
this lady has lots of hidden talents!
The final Talent Act was
a film of Elaine Alexander and Paul Westmoreland
ballroom dancing competitively. It was a half hour of lots of
fun and entertainment, and we thank you - Tom Burroughs -
for directing the show!
HAPPY & SAD BUCKS
Howard Backer was assessing
Penalty Bucks against Jim Ackland, Bea
Cirar, Daryal Gant, Don Voss, and Bob
Martin because they all forgot to sign in. Howard
warned the penalty is going up to Two Bucks next
week.
Mary Gant had Happy
Bucks because her UCLA won it's second football game
already.
Elizabeth Calciano had a
Happy Buck because her husband is better now after
being ill for a time.
Ken Lowe had a Happy
Buck 'cause he could walk home on Sunday after the Wine
and Gourmet Food Tasting.

Patsy Christanson had a
Happy Buck because she was glad to be back.

Wilton owns La Caņada

in the same retirement home as Ed

Paul Westmoreland
was joined by his lovely
Elaine Alexander.
Anniversaries: Unlike thier
marriage, Carl and Irene Christensen's 44th
anniversary on August 24th got off to a rocky start; they had a
major flood that inundated half their home and a house guest had
a stroke. I guess the rest of the day was okay, though.
One-uping
the Christensens, Ken and Marjorie Lowe celebrated
their 51st anniversary on August 30 (worth a Century Club).
Lloyd Welch left the other two couples in the dust, as he
and Irene celebrated their 54th anniversary recently.
Since Lloyd's birthday is coming up soon, he added his
age to his anniversary and donated $134 to the foundation.
Birthdays: Harriet Hammons
has been traveling so much, the Prez didn't catch her
until today. Even with Nick Berkuta behind her,
Harriet looked the Prez right in the eye and said if
she has any money left after her around the world cruise she
will then decide what her birthday was worth. The Prez
also went after Dave Spence only to find out Paul
Westmoreland caught Dave several weeks ago. The
Prez then turned to Nick The Enforcer and reminded
Nick he not only had a birthday last week, he also missed
the board meeting. Nick didn't fall for the Prez'
tall tale (that the board voted in a new rule at the board
meeting last that made a Century Club donation equal to $250)
but agreed to make an "old" Century Club donation.
