The Prez
sez . . .
Prez
Steve Hagerty
opened the
meeting with behavior warnings for the new teachers: no
whispering, no passing notes, and raise your hand if you need to
use the restroom. After that fine start, the Prez
welcomed all the guests who were not new teachers, called for
announcements, and then had a Frosty Challenge. It only took
fifteen minutes, and then the meeting was turned over to our
club member and Superintendent of Schools, Jim Stratton.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Daryal Gant reminded us that there
will be some very special guests at the Wine and Gourmet Food
Tasting (W&GFT) event on September 9. Kiwanis International
President Nelson Tucker will be there as well as our
Division 3 Lt. Governor.
Bill Scherkey is the person to call or
contact if you need additional tickets to sell for the W&GFT.
There are still one and a half weeks left, and this is the best
time to get people interested in attending. Bill will be
happy to deliver tickets anywhere in town.
Pat Anderson reminded us to put
October 7th on our calendars for the Play It Safe Emergency
Expo. There will be attractions for all ages and amazing
things to see and learn.
Ed Moulton was looking for someone to
help him find Dick DeGrey's house.
Pam Feterl addressed the roomful of
educators and made a great plug for the Travel Adventures series
that will start in October. Pam is the new Chair of the
Travel Adventures committee and is looking for a few good
committee members to help her.
Our Installation Dinner is being held at
Oakmont Country Club on September 26, and Diane DellaValle
encouraged everyone to get his/her name on the sign-up
sheet.
Next week is Clergy Recognition Day, and
Carl Christensen told us we are expecting 14 guests from
local churches.
Bachy Bachmayer reminded us to support
Children's Hospital by putting money into the collection can on
our table.
Frosty Boyd's SLA report was ....
status quo with Dick DeGrey and Jeb Long's
stepdaughter Vicky. Patsy Christensen is
recovering quite well from her hip surgery.
THE PROGRAM

Superintendent of Schools, Jim Stratton.
Jim Stratton started by introducing
the school board members joining us for Apple for a Teacher
Day: Susan Boyd, Ginny Dalbeck, Cindy Wilcox,
and incoming board member Jeanne Broberg. Jim
told us the School District anticipated hiring only a few new
teachers last spring, but the final count was 25 new teachers.
Jim was surprised that none of the new hires was from
Dinuba. With that quick start, Jim turned the
introductions over to the principal of La Caņada High School,
Damon Dragos who introduced sixteen new teachers at the high
school. Principals Tamara Jackson from Foothill School,
Wendy Sinnette from La Caņada High School 7/8, Donna
Robinson from Paradise Canyon Elementary, Ivette Ellis
from La Caņada Elementary, and Anais Wenn from Palm
Crest Elementary each introduced the new teachers from their
respective schools. Of special note, one of the new teachers at
Palm Crest is Wendy Watts, daughter of Bill Watts.
