The Prez sez . . .

Many thanks to Ed Moulton who was tickling the ivories before lunch today.  When Prez Steve Hagerty got the meeting started after lunch, Ed did double duty by leading God Bless America and playing the piano accompaniment.   Prez Steve Hagerty heard that Carl Christensen and Diane DellaValle did a great job leading the meeting last week while he was playing hokey.

THE PROGRAM

Ted Ashby

Ted Ashby is a western American History buff, and his presentation on the Pony Express held everyone's interest.  In fact, most of the Terrific Kids and their Terrific Parents stayed to listen.  The business of setting up the Pony Express started on a handshake and was carried out by one of the wealthiest companies in the country.  It had a strong influence on the politics of California and the country, yet the Pony Express was only in existence for 18 months.  All of the businessmen who were involved with the development of the Pony Express died penniless.  It was 30 minutes of Amazing and Interesting facts. HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Ellie Wildermuth had a Sad Buck for the Virginia Tech tragedy and a Happy Buck because her three-year-old and seven year old grandchildren were able to spend the last week with Ellie and Bob.

Mary Gant (last week's newsletter editor) had a Sad Buck for Prez Steve ... who apparently did not read last week's newsletter.  If he had read the newsletter, the Prez would have known who admitted to having a birthday or celebrating an anniversary at last week's meeting!

Jack Dawson had a Happy Buck because he just finished rebuilding his antique car.  The car really got water logged during Jack's rainy road trip through Europe last summer.

Dr. Alan Perry Sr. added a Sad Buck the Mary Gant's SB 'cause the Prez didn't read the newsletter last week.

Our speaker, Ted Ashby (of the Eagle Rock Kiwanis Club) had a Happy Buck for all the Terrific Kids and took the opportunity to try and recruit the Terrific Parents for his club.

Daryal Gant had a Happy Buck 'cause Mary didn't stiff him out of his allowance this week

Howard Backer had a Happy Buck for Melinda Thompson (returning from the tax war) and for the Terrific KidsHoward had another Happy Buck because he was at the Dodger game on Sunday when Jackie Robinson was honored.

Howard Backer

Dave Spence had a Happy Buck because the City's mid-year budget hearing confirmed that City revenues are strong.  There was enough money to allocate $270,000 for improving the intersection at Foothill and Angeles Crest and another $175,000 for improving the hillside at Memorial Park.
