The melodic music of maestro Tom Burroughs guided us to our noon repast as Kiwanians hurried to shake the hands of the secret greeter who was lurking like a Judas in the crowd.

Let the good times roll: (The Meeting)

The world will little note nor long remember what we say here (does anybody read this newsletter?) but it will never forget the good that Kiwanians do here. (My apologies to Abe Lincoln)

The meeting started after the gong with Ed Mouton leading us in song as Tom Burroughs played along.  ED broke the norm as he had us sing “What a Beautiful Morn”. The Flag of our Country was next on the list and Fred Schooley gave us an assist.  For the invocation by Dr. Charles Brogerg we did stand and it turned out to be really grand.

The Prez sez . . .

Our thanks to Tom for his list of songs that matter, and then he went into his normal chatter. He then asked Bob Wallace to present things that matter.

Bob Wallace (with his mouth half full) inducted two new members and gave them their stuff.  The first was Sheere Ingram presented by Diane DellaValle and the next was Norm Johnson who was introduced by Glen Pettit who was subbing for Jeb Long.

Norm Johnson, Bob Wallace. Sheere Ingram and Diane Delevalle

“You’re in Kiwanis Now” was then sounded through the room like a balloon exploding.

SPECIAL PRESENTATION:

Howard Backer, our “Old” Treasurer, presented a treasurers pin to John Landrum our “new” keeper of the books.  Wifey Diane pinned him.

Hi Neighbor! sounded with alarm

  The pres fined:

Happy & Sad Bucks: (with Jim Reynolds at the cash box)

Karl Johnson dropped in 5 bucks for his happiness; Paul Westmoreland was happy about Anthony Portantino’s win for Assemblyman; Tom Schooley pumped in a buck for UC Berkeley; Pat Anderson was also happy about Anthony’s win and she was at his victory celebration;  Our new Assemblyman himself thanked all for their help and encouragement and joined the Century Club.  Happy that “Jessica’s law” won on the ballot, Diane DellaValle pumped in happy bucks; Frosty Boyd had a sad joke (that really was sad)

OUR SPEAKER:

Our speaker today was Lance Miller, president of the Glendale based “The Way to Happiness Foundation International”. This foundation works with organizations in over 100 countries and provides programs in 95 languages that teach how success and happiness depend on self respect and the application of sound principles of conduct.  Lance is a native of Indiana and his presentation centered on his experience as a youth and the lessons he learned on Ethics, Morals and Civilization.  He gave a humorous presentation with many moralistic sayings such as “ the good Lord doesn’t give you wisdom and youth at the same time.

He gave us booklets on “The Way to Happiness” written by L. Ron Hubbard although it was written by Hubbard as an individual and is not a part of any Religious doctrine.
