The Prez sez . . .

Let the good times roll: (The Meeting)

Ed Moulton (sporting a wicked tie) led us in “God Bless America”, Paul Westmoreland helped us salute the flag and Jim Ackland advised us to sit down for his extended invocation. Melodic Music by Tom Burrows filled the room before the meeting and of course with each song.

 The Prez sez . . .

BE SURE TO VOTE NEXT WEEK!  And bring proof of voting to the meeting or you will be fined ($250???)

He also welcomed an Interclub from the L.C. Kiwanis A.M. club.

Guests:

5 Members of the A.M.Club were introduced. Anthony Portantino introduced his daughter Sofia; Pat Anderson had us greet her guest April Kelcy of Earthquake Solutions; Diane DellaValle introduced prospective member Shree Ingram and the sister of new member Michael Abounassar, Micha.

Ken Lowe introduced the largest contingent of Key Club members we have ever had, 13 Key Clubbers., including their district  Lieutenant Governor: Andy Park.

All were greeted of course by Hi Neighbor and lots of noise.

Birthdays & Anniversaries:

Glen Pettit said he was indeed born only 89 years ago but he joined the Century Club.

Tom Stafford said he’s been married to Helen for only 52 years.  They’ve been celebrating up in Sun Valley and he also joined the Century Club (that’s 100 big ones for you new members)

Mary & Daryal Gant did a joint Century Club to celebrate their 50th Anniversary.

Happy & Sad Bucks: (with Linda Magarian at the cash box)

Pat Anderson Had sad bucks for the local water district. Something about their 50th anniversary??

Mary Gant Was sad of course for UCLA.

Clyde Hemphill had 3 Happy bucks. One: because Rutgers won again, two: a buck for Jeb Long as University of Texas was still winning and is now #4 in the polls, and Three: a buck for Ellie Wildermuth to celebrate Ohio States win.

Jack Dawson was happy he got finished putting a 1934 Ford back together but wondered what he was going to do with all the leftover parts.

Elizabeth C. Georgeon was Happy about something (that I missed)

Bachy Bachmayer was happy for family Birthday party celebrations as well as the Kiwanis one last week.

Jim Ackland had a happy 6 bucks which I believe was for his chemo being over and said “Life is Good”

Paul Westmoreland had sad bucks for UCLA.  He used the time to hand out a couple of awards for service to the club while he was President (that he hadn’t handed out yet) they went to Pat Flynn & Nick Berkuta.

50/50 Raffle:

The Winner our President Steve Haggerty (will he sell tickets next week)

Announcements:

Anthony Portantino said something about the election and don’t forget to vote. He’s running for Assemblyman you know.

Bachy Bachmayer gave his plea for bucks for the table tubs for the Children’s Hospital

Pat Flynn asked for help with the Terrific Kids who will be attending next 2 weeks

Clyde Hemphill reminded all to sign up for the Christmas Party on December 10th

Frosty Boyd said Joan Peters was still improving; Dick DeGrey was still having problems.

OUR SPEAKER:

Carl Christensen gave a rousing introduction to our speaker Harry Truman, the 31st President of the United States.  In reality is was Peter Small, an impersonator of historical figures. Peter has performed nationally for a wide range of audiences, including Ronald Regan, George Bush, Richard Nixon etc.  While teaching history in the greater Los Angeles and Washington D.C. areas, he developed his program with costumed presentation for his classes which became memorable and enjoyable lessons for his students.

His presentation today as Harry Truman brought back memories to all of this period in our history.  He looked and sounded like Harry “the buck stops here” Truman and was readily received by Kiwanis.  One thought it was Harry himself who was giving a speech about his terms of office.  Do you remember when the headlines read: “Dewey Defeats Truman”?  A standing ovation was given to our  guest.

THE END:

“Hail Kiwanis” rounded out the meeting
