The Prez sez . . .
Prez Steve named Diane DellaValle
the Honorary Kiwanian for the week.
Gigi Schlueter still has three items
left over from the silent auction. If anyone is interested
contact Gigi. Could be a golden opportunity.
The first Travel Adventure for
this series is Vietnam - Land of Surprises on Saturday, October
14, 2006.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pat Anderson announced that the
Chamber would be hosting a Business Breakfast on October 24 at
the Dish Restaurant beginning at8 am. The program will be
presented by April Kelsey who will be speaking on
Business Continuity in a Disaster.
George Lutes announced that the
Travel Adventure tickets to club members had been mailed,
and that the mailing to prospective season ticket holders had
gone out a couple of weeks ago. The Travel Adventure will
happen this Saturday on schedule.
Bachy Bachmayer reminded everyone to
make a donation in the cans on each table for the Children's
Hospital.
Harriet Hammons will be our liaison to
the Kiwanis International Foundation.
Paul Westmoreland announced that the
Flintridge Pharmacy will be giving Flu Shots from 2 to 6 pm.
Call Flintridge Pharmacy for the details.
Carl Christensen announced three
events happening around the One City, One Book Month, as
follows: Oct. 15 - Tea with Little Women at the Lanterman
House; Oct. 24 - 1949 film version of Little Women, and Oct. 26
- Panel discussion at the La Cañada Flintridge Library. There
is a flyer on the back table with specific details of all the
events.
Carl also announced the upcoming
programs for our Wednesday Meetings: Oct. 18 - Karl Johnson -
Wealth and Legacy; and Oct. 25 - Carl Christensen - "China' 3
Gorges Dam"
FROSTY’S SLA REPORT
Dick DeGrey fell and has some sore
ribs. Shirley DeGrey needs a lot of attention. Dick
would appreciate calls from his fellow Kiwanian's.
Ed Moulton is having some difficulties
- more details to come.
Frosty also has the Vile of Life for
anyone who is interested.
SPECIAL PRESENTATION
Diane Landrum was presented her
Directors Pin, and John Landrum is still waiting for
Howard to find his Treasurers Pin.
THE PROGRAM
Chris Erskine, Editor and Columnist
for the LA Times gave a humorous look at family life, and living
in La Cañada.
Steve presented Chris with a La Cañada Kiwanis Cup, and had him sign a book for our Literacy
program.
HAPPY & SAD BUCKS
Daryal Gant had a Happy Buck
for Bill Bodell and his bid for election.
Linda Magarian had a Sad Buck
for Harriet Hammons who won 7 prizes in the
drawing at Man About Town. She also had a Happy Buck
for Harriet, and was glad for her that she was so
lucky.
Harriet Hammons had two Happy
Bucks for the Key Clubbers who did such a great job at
the Montrose Oktoberfest. She had another Happy Buck
for her son John who was her guest at the luncheon.
Mary Gant had a Sad Buck
for UCLA loss two weeks ago, but had a Happy Buck
for their win last week.
Pat Anderson had a Happy Buck
for our Mayor Greg Brown.
Mark Alexander had a Happy Ten
Bucks for the letter that he received from USC regarding
his decorated Heismen Trophy. He also received a signed picture
from Head Coach Pete Carroll.
Clyde Hemphill donated a Sad
Buck on behalf of the Key Clubbers who drained the
beer. I'm not sure what this is all about.
Ellie Wildermuth had yet another
Happy Buck for the Ohio State Buckeye's as they roll
up another win.
Fred Schooley had a Happy Buck
for the Oregon Duck's who's win record matches that of
USC. He warned USC, UCLA and Berkley to watch out. Good luck
Duck's.
Tom Burrows had a Happy Buck
for USC who continues to win.
Patsy Christinson Had a Happy
Buck for Diane DellaValle who was honored as
Business Woman of the Year. Patsy also announced that
she lost a ring after she entered the Hall, and would like help
finding it.
Jeb Long had a Happy Buck
for the University of Texas for their win over Okalahoma.
Bob Martin had a Happy Buck
for his daughter who recently moved to San Juan Capistrano.
Bill Bodell had a Happy Buck
- He announced a fundraiser in support of his campaign.
Paul Westmoreland had a Happy
$5 Bucks for USC who won last week, but stressed him out
in the process.
