ANNOUNCEMENTS
Karl Johnson, with the help of
Daryal Gant to twist arms, started the drive for the
Glendale Kiwanis Club's 2nd Annual Duck Race on October 21,
2006. Half of all the money collected for the ducks will come
back to our Foundation. Ducks cost $5 for one, 6 ducks for $25,
and 24 ducks for $100.
NEW MEMBERS INDUCTION
Bob Wallace presided over the
induction ceremony for Ellie and Bob Wildermoth
who are transferring from the AM Club. Ellie and Bob
have lived in La Cañada since 1967, and are sponsored by
Diane DellaValle. Ellie taught at CCHS, and Bob
was a financial advisor. They are good friends of Tom
Burrows and Pat Flynn. Howard mad the
traditional presentation of their first invoice as members, and
Bob have them their Member Certificates along with
Temporary Badges.

THE PROGRAM
Hal Thomas came dressed smartly and
appropriately in his World War II uniform for Charles "Norm"
Stevens who told us about his experiences in the Air Corp
during WWII. He served from April 1943 to October 1945 and flew
34 missions as a bombadier in a B-17G. One of the interesting
facts was that more Air Corps members died in the war than
Marines. Norm's wife Delores was with him, and it
a very interesting to hear about Norm's experiences in
England during WWII.
HAPPY & SAD BUCKS
Mary Gant had another $5 Happy
Bucks for this season's second football win by UCLA.
Ellie Wildermuth also enjoyed gloating
a little and a had a Happy Buck for Ohio States
victory over Texas last weekend.
Since Ellie brought it up, Jeb Long
put in his Sad Buck because Texas was the
loser.
Jack Dawson had a Happy Buck
for Mark Alexander and all the LCF city staff;
Jack thought the new street islands in Old Town look very
nice.
Pat Anderson had two Happy Bucks
- one for the success of the new Farmers' Market
location and the second for Dave Spence who made sure
everyone used the new crosswalk to get the Farmers' Market.
Mark Alexander's Happy Buck was
because USC moved up in the football standing even though they
didn't play last weekend.
Patsy Christiansen had a Sad
Buck 'cause she broker her foot and has to use a walker
to get around.
Anthony Portantino had a
Question Buck for Mark Anthony and shared the
rumor that Mark is on probation with USC. Apparently
Mark has a small replica of the Heisman Trophy in his office
that he didn't properly protect. A USC dean heard that the
replica was stolen, and then it was eventually returned all
"dressed" in UCLA colors. Mark claims he has provided
verification to the dean - including photos - that everything is
back to normal, and he hopes to off probation very soon.
Bill Scherkey was Happy
that Jack Dawson suggested an upgrade for his water pump;
it was a great suggestion.
