The Prez sez . . .

“A life not lived for others is not a life.”  John Wooden

Prez Paul Westmoreland welcomed Barbara and Jack Esterly who have been our excellent, loyal, conscientious and always friendly printers for many years.  It was a sad welcome for us since Barbara and Jack are retiring and moving to Ohio.  The Prez presented Jack and Barbara with a Distinguished Service plaque, and we gave them a standing ovation for years of dedicated service to our Club and the entire community.

Past Lt. Governor NIlo Pineda was invited to the podium by the Prez, and Nilo gave us a quick review of the 2004-2005 Kiwanis Year when he was Lt. Gov.  We found out that all 12 Kiwanis Clubs in the district that year were Distinguished Clubs, had Distinguished Presidents and Distinguished Secretaries.  Every Club also had an increase in membership!  Nilo presented the Prez with the Distinguished Club plaque, and gave 2004-2005 President Daryal Gant and Secretary Bill Scherkey with Distinguished Service Kiwanis pins.

Today was the date to vote for our 2006-2007 Club Treasurer.  Past Prez Daryal Gant reintroduced new member John Landrum, took a voice vote ... and ... there wasn't a single "naye."  You're the man, John!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We're in the final countdown for the Wine and Gourmet Food event and our Club Members who have been working so hard on the core committee will be asking for help now.  Event Co-Chair Daryal Gant asked that every Club Member find a way to answer the call with a big YES!

Mary Gant reminded everyone that posters and postcards are available to help advertise the W&GF event on September 17th.  Everyone can help by passing the good news out.

The W&GF Silent Auction is a big part of the fundraising event.  Newer member Gig Schlueter is coordinating the Silent Auction and requested more donations of auction items.

Clyde Hemphill was standing in for Harriet Hammons and announced that Chef Claude Beltran will be cooking for our upcoming Summer Social on August 27th.  If you haven't signed up yet, call Clyde.

Children's Hospital is always kept in view, and Bachy Bachmayer encouraged us to donate for the good cause.

THE PROGRAM

Kiwanian Jimmy Weldon is the fastest talkin' motivational speaker you have ever heard.  Vision, creativity and motivation were what we heard about as we listened as fast as we could.  Jimmy has some great stories and kept us laughing throughout his presentation.
