4   The semi-annual Cal-Nev-Ha District convention is coming up August 11-14 in San Diego.  This is an excellent opportunity for club members to find out how friendly Kiwanians really are.   There are many interesting and useful seminars and meetings.  A great time to rev up your energy and enthusiasm and collect  many great ideas.  Call the Prez or Bill Scherkey if you want to sign up or need more information.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Watch your mail for a booklet called Kiwanis is a VerbJim Ackland was down on his knees (figuratively) explaining that bringing in new members is an activity (verb = action) in which we all need to participate on a regular and recurring basis.  If you provide Jim with a name and address of a potential member, he will send a letter inviting that person to come to a meeting.

The LCF Chamber of Commerce's July mixer will be at the Flintridge Riding Club on July 20th.  Pat Anderson encouraged everyone to attend.  The mixer starts at 5:30 p.m.  There will also be a Tri-Chamber Business Expo on September 13 at Verdugo Hills Hospital.

THE PROGRAM

Ty Ritter of Project Child Save

Ty Ritter is a native Californian and a former Marine who has devoted his life to the protection of others.  In addition to his business life involved with executive protection and bodyguard services, Ty is the founder of Project Child Save which is a non-profit charity that supports his fight against child predators and child pornographers.  Over thirty years ago he formed and still leads a highly qualified team of volunteers that specialize in the recovery of children who have been kidnapped or sold into sexual slavery around the world.  The Council of Europe (representing 21 nations) estimates a minimum of four million children are held captive in sexual slavery today.   A major objective of Project Child Save is to create a computerized information center which will accept and verify information from all child help organizations regarding existing sex crime cases, suspects and involved individuals.  This network will assist in a more efficient and rapid location and recovery of missing and kidnapped children.  Ty has recently self-published a book as a guide for parents on child protection.  My Body Is My Own educates parents in depth about how to keep their children safer from predators, sexual abuse and kidnapping.  In addition, the book supplies detailed information and instructions regarding what to do if something does happen.  For more information:  www.projectchildsave.org

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Guests Mike Fernandez and Ron Youra are Board Members of the Desi Geestman Foundation (DGF) and scrounged eight Happy Bucks (after buying gas on the way up from Glendale) because they are excited about an upcoming fundraiser for this nonprofit organization that provides services to children and their families suffering from cancer; these are services not duplicated by any other organizations.  Aloha Casino will be held Saturday evening, July 29th at the Jeffer's estate.  Adding another twelve Happy Bucks, Mike and Ron encouraged us to buy a ticket.  For $50 you will enjoy a Luau buffet, a Polynesian dance revue, casino gaming and a silent auction.  Flyers are on the back table.

Prez Paul had five Happy Bucks for Steve Hagerty's amazing recovery from his stroke this month.

Clyde Hemphill's Happy Bucks were to celebrate the emptiness in Joel Smith's back yard.  By the end of the week all the Soap Box Derby cars will be out of Joel's backyard and into our new storage garage.

Scott Fuller had ten Happy Bucks because the Tour de France is being televised this year.

Pat Anderson had a very Sad Buck because the reviewing Commission rejected the Town Center project.  Her Happy Buck was because this throws the approval decision into the laps of the City Council.

Tom Gilfoy just became a Great-Grandfather for the second time and had some Happy Bucks to celebrate.

Jim Ackland had three Happy Bucks for the lovely faces in the room.

Doris Horwith had one Happy Buck for the full scholarship at UCSB her golfing grandson was awarded.  Another Happy Buck for her wonderful trip to China and Tibet, where she even climbed all the steps to stand on the top of the Great Wall.  Doris came home from China and got sick, so her third Happy Buck was for finally feeling much better.

Ed Moulton had a Happy Buck for the pleasure of singing with Charles Broberg.

Bob Wallace had five Happy Bucks.  He just returned from his son's wedding in Vancouver, Canada in time for the upcoming birth of another grandchild.

Patsy Christianson had five Happy Bucks for our speaker, Ty Ritter.
