The Prez sez . . .
“A life not lived for others is not a life.” John Wooden
-
Welcome to all, Scouts,
Parents, Scout Leaders, and other guests.
-
Reminded all to register for
the District Convention in San Diego, August 17-19. If you
register before the end of June there is a registration
discount. Lt. Gov. Laurel Patric will host a
Hospitality Suite there, be sure to join in the Division
fun.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Pat
Anderson
announced the
Tri-Chamber Mixer
to be held at the Valley Sun tomorrow, June 22, where food from
Los Gringos Locos will be served along with their Mai-Tai Bar.
Too,
Pat
had a schedule from Charter Communications with all the
information regarding the showing of the LCF Fiesta Parade.
Pat
reported that ‘we’ looked real good, like professionals.
Gigi Schlueter,
Silent Auction Chair for the 2006 Wine & Gourmet Food
Tasting event asked that members think of donations they can
make to assure that this event is a success. Gigi
suggested that anywhere you have your services done; hair
dresser/barber, manicurist, masseuse, etc; or if you are on
vacation ask the resort, hotel, restaurant or wherever you are
to donate a gift certificate. If you would rather just make a
contribution it is suggested a bottle of your favorite wine
costing $15+. Last year the income was $6,000 and Gigi
hopes to top that.
Ed Moulton
reminded that the Club will have a Talent Show on July 19th
and he asks for all to think of a talent they can perform.
Ed says Tom Burrows, chair of this event, would like
to have a Barber Shop Quartet and ask all the men to sing one
line of a song, Ed was pleased. Ed then asked all
the women to sing the same line and immediately decided that
only the men qualified to perform!
Clyde Hemphill
stated that another successful Pet Vaccination Clinic occurred
last Thursday because of all who turned out to volunteer.
Clyde
thanked all who participated.
Diane Delle Valle
announced that next week’s program would be a Canine
Demonstration by the Glendale Police Department.
Diane urged all members not going to the convention in
Montreal
to come out and support this exciting program
FROSTY’S SLA
REPORT
Carl Gieseke
continues about the same; Dick DeGrey is holding his own,
and Hal Thomas while he suffers from colon cancer it is
treatable and Hal is doing better. All these members
appreciate cards, calls and visits.
THE PROGRAM

Harriet
Hammons
stated that she was very happy to be part of this particular
program because her son was an
Eagle
Scout
and her daughter was a
Gold
Scout.
Harriet
works all over the LA area and she stated that the Crescenta
Valley area was one of the strongest Scouting areas in the
nation.
Harriet
then introduced member,
Carlos
Cortez
who is the Senior Director of the San Gabriel Valley Council,
Boy Scouts of America.
Harriet
gave some of
Carlos
background stating that he grew up in Santa Barbara, told of
Carlos
education background and that through his work is setting the
standard and that in our area 1 out of 6 Scouts become an Eagle
or Gold Scout whereas the national average is 1 out of 10.

Carlos
then introduced Ken Lowe who is District Eagle
Commissioner. Ken then requested the many Eagle and Gold
Scouts in our meeting come forward and tell the project that
they did to achieve their award and to tell of their favorite
memory of their Scouting careers. It was a very impressive
presentation. As they concluded the Scouts presented our Club
with a Plaque of Appreciation for our support of Scouting and
then Ken presented each Scout with a certificate that
George Lutes had made from our club.
HAPPY & SAD
BUCKS
Happy – Steve Hagerty
was happy that Clyde Hemphill had given him a DVD for
special program on Soap Box Derby. Steve’s son,
Jason, was shown many times through the DVD; once with
Daryal Gant presenting Jason with his trophy.
Steve said, however, the real star of the show was
Steve’s own forearm that is shown in the flick of an eye.
Anyone who views this DVD is to be particularly alert to
Steve’s performance.
Happy – Patsy Christianson
gave $5 because she
was so happy to be in the room with all these high achieving
young men and ladies. She loves the Scouting organization and
appreciates all of those who work with them.
Happy – Tom Burrows
was $20 happy for his granddaughter who was at the meeting and
is a Gold Scout. Tom was very proud of her achievement.
Happy – Frosty
was happy that 19 of his extended family came to celebrate
Father’s Day with Grandpa.
Happy – Mary Gant
was happy that husband, Daryal and Joel Peterson,
have taken on the job as Co-Directors of the 2006 Wine & Gourmet
Food Tasting. Especially happy that Gigi Schlueter has
stepped forward to chair the Silent Auction; Mark Alexander
will chair the Food; Clyde Hemphill will assist Joel
with wine and be one of the Advisors; Carl Christensen
once again will head up Site; Pat Anderson assumes her
position as Entry Chair; Nick Berkuta will chair Ads;
Bill Scherkey is chair of Tickets; and, George Lutes
will once again do the Graphics. Wow that’s a lot to be happy
for only $5.
Sad – Charles Broberg
was sad because the Prez forgot his anniversary of 44
years so to get even Charles joined the Century Club.
Sad –
Jim Reynolds
qualified to receive his Eagle Scout award but instead was
drafted into WWII service and he never received it.
Harriet
said that wasn’t fair and would check into this and see if it
can be awarded now.
Happy – Harriet
Hammons said that she has collected 500 books for the
Literacy Program and that she along with Patsy Christianson’s
help had delivered them that morning to the school. Laurel
Patric, the Lt. Governor, also attended.
Happy – Daryal Gant was
happy for Harriet’s and Patsy’s participation in
the Literacy Program and happy for the Scouts who are graduating
high school this year and going on to colleges and universities.
