The Prez sez . . .

others is not a life.”

Prez Elect Steve Hagerty welcomed Prez Paul
back. Paul had his usual warm smile, and it was great
to have him as a part of the luncheon crowd. Steve
suggested Prez Paul took an extreme measure to get out of
working on the Soap Box Derby this year! Elaine Alexander
was Paul's special guest and also his chauffeur
today.

Prez Elect Steve asked us to indicate on the circulating
sign-up sheet how many guests we will be bringing to La Cañadan of the Year on May 24th.
ANNOUNCEMENTS

Soap Box Derby is coming up and lots
of volunteers are needed. Start thinking about how you want to
help. Volunteers are needed both on Saturday and Friday night.
Mike Lieninger passed around a
sign-up sheet for manning the Hamburger Booth on Monday of
Fiesta Days weekend.
Bachy Bachmayer reminded us of all
the good work done by Children's Hospital and asked us to stuff
a little green stuff into the new canisters on our tables.
Joel Peterson said the best dinner
deal in town during Fiesta Days will be the Korean Barbeque on
Saturday night. In fact, for $6 per person you will get a great
Korean dinner and a Korean show.
FROSTY’S SLA REPORT
Frosty
asked us to let him know if anyone in the club is Sick, Lame
or Ailing. We don't know if Howard Backer was trying to
test the system, but he had an incident during the meeting and
ended up being taken by ambulance to VHH. After a bunch of
tests, Howard was released on Thursday morning. Of
course, he had Rhoda stop on the way home to pick up his
Treasurer's briefcase that Bill Scherkey had taken home
and was safeguarding. He is feeling fine now.
THE PROGRAM
Clergy Recognition Day was ably arranged by
Charles Broberg who also acted as MC for the program. We
were honored to have so many of the local clergy attend. Each
guest was introduced by a Club member, and we learned something
interesting about every clergyman and house of worship. Jack
Dawson introduced Rob Calderhead from the Methodist
Church, Al Restivo introduced Kevin Kester from
St. Bedes, and Presbyterians Gary Dennis, Chuck Osbourn, Jim
Milley, and Kristen Leucht were welcomed by Jim
Ackland. Charles introduced Hovsap Hagopian and
Hrant Agajanian from the Armenian Apostolic Church La Cañada
as well as Christopher Bisgaard from the Church of Jesus
Christ of Latter-Day Saints and Skip Lindeman from the
Church of the Lighted Window. Bruce Johnson from the
Lutheran Church in the Foothills was welcomed by Glen
Pettit. Charles introduced Jay Knight from the
Christian Science Church. Harriet Hammons explained our
Literacy Program and
asked each of the clergy to sign a book that will soon be
delivered to one of the second graders in our special reader's
program.

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Mary Gant had five Happy Bucks
because GOD was at her table today. That is ....
Gary O. Dennis.
Clyde Hemphill had a Happy
Buck and plenty of thanks to all those members who
helped on Friday evening setting up the tables and chairs for
the Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning at the YMCA.
Paul
Westmoreland was so glad to be back he threw five
Happy Bucks in the Cash Box.
Howard
Backer's first great-grandchild was coming home today after
having surgery yesterday. Baby came through the surgery with no
problems, and Howard contributed ten Happy Bucks.
Daryal
Gant had a Happy Buck cause the sun was out
today. Mary isn't happy when it's cloudy, and Daryal
said if Mary ain't happy, no one is happy.
Bill
Bodell had Happy Bucks because his daughter
won the spelling bee at her school for the second time this
year.
Pat
Anderson was Happy because Skip Lindeman
joined us.

Burrows and Ed Moulton leading us in God Bless

Welcome Back: Prez Paul Westmoreland, Al Restivo, Mike
Leininger
Guests: Ken Lowe introduced
three freshmen Key Clubbers
from LCHS, Al Restivo
brought his office intern, Adam Liebelt, and Irene Welch joined
Floyd. Harriet Hammons was
pleased that her son, John,
was with us, too. We're always delighted when Honorary Member
Theo Abelmann joins us!
Charles Broberg brought
Jeanne, and more than
one person was twisting her arm a bit to rejoin.
Master of the Cash Box: Bill Watts
Anniversaries: Jim Reynolds
didn't get reminded last week and claimed it got him in
trouble. He thought a belated reminder was worth at least $1
for each year - $22.
Birthdays: Al Restivo, Chuck Gulick,
and Carl Christensen shared the limelight. Carl
turned 70 on the same day his granddaughter had her first
birthday! Al said his birthday this year was a "big
one."
Fines: It's amazing how much money
gets collected every week for missing Kiwanis pins. Either a
lot of people are slow learners or like to contribute a lot.
