THE PROGRAM

Key Clubbers take over Head Table

The enthusiastic and lively LCHS Key Clubbers led our meeting today.  It was a lot of fun and we also learned quite a bit.  We heard about the recent Key Club Convention in Sacramento and Chris read a lovely thank you letter he wrote to our Club for our financial help.  The Key Clubbers were wearing their blue Division 3 t-shirts; they are the Sharkeys.   Did you know that "Key" stands for Kiwanis Educated Youth?  We heard the whole history of Key Club from it's original beginnings in Sacramento High School in 1925 (presented in skit form).   Service projects for the LCHS Key Clubbers never slow down.  Upcoming service projects include buying and taking food to Union Station, helping at the Soap Box Derby, working with the preschoolers at the Apple Blossom Festival, and assisting at the Children Helping Children Fashion Show.

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS

Nick Berkuta had some Happy Bucks for the Key Club for all the good work they have already done this year and in anticipation of the help they will provide on Memorial Day.

Harriet had some Happy Bucks for a great trip she just had to Oregon and Sad Bucks because she was the only one from our Club who attended the Prayer Breakfast sponsored by the A.M Kiwanis Club this morning at St. Bedes.  (Even the food was really good!)

Clyde had Happy Bucks because Nick has offered to help set up all the tables and chairs (about 300) on Friday evening for the YMCA Prayer Breakfast on Saturday morning.  Clyde would be even happier if a few more people showed up around 6 p.m. to lend a hand.

Bill Scherkey had some more Happy Bucks for having the Key Club take over our meeting today.

Steve Hagerty threw in some Happy Bucks on behalf of the Club, because he thought we would be Happy to have someone other than himself leading the meeting.

Frosty was Happy that most of our Club Members who are on the SLA list are "holding their own."

Al Perry had 100 Happy Bucks for the Key Club as thanks for all their help wrapping more than a truckload of Christmas gifts for the cleft palate patients at White Memorial Hospital.

Mary Ralston and Mary Weaver had Happy Bucks for all the support Ken Lowe provides for the Key ClubMary Weaver added another Happy Buck because LCHS Key Clubber Andy has been elected Lt. Governor for Division Three which includes twelve high schools.

Pat Anderson had a Happy Buck for the pole banners being installed along Foothill Blvd. for Fiesta Days.  Be sure to check out and support the local businesses who sponsored the banners.  Pat was also Happy to announce the Sport Chalet project has "cleared all the hurdles" and construction should begin in the near future.

Andy used Happy Bucks as an opportunity to thank upcoming Kiwanis Division Three Lt. Gov. Daryal Gant and Key Club advisor Mary Walston for all their help and encouragement as he begins his year as Key Club Lt. Gov.

FACTS AND FICTION

Music:  piano tunes especially from the 30s and '40s by Tom Burrows (as requested by Bob Martin).  Tom was able to eat lunch a little earlier than usual, because it was Key Club Day and Carl from the LCHS Key Club entertained us with beautiful violin music.  (Carl is the concert master at LCHS.)  Tom Burrows pitched in at various times during the meeting to lead us in American the Beautiful, Happy Birthday and On Kiwanis.
