Piano Tunes by Tom Burrows
The Prez sez . . .
“A life not lived for others is not a life.”
John
Wooden

Steve Hagerty
Fill-in President Elect Steve Hagerty
(President Paul is still missing) reminded us of the Board
Meeting tomorrow night!
Wearing his Interclub hat, Steve reminded us of an interclub
Wednesday morning at the La Cañada AM Club (where our Aaron
Solomon will be the speaker, on the Roger Barkley Community
Center). He also gave a list of the more creative excuses for
not attending interclubs, including “My dog ate my interclub
schedule.”
Next week: Flag Salute by Harriet Hammons and Invocation by Al
Restivo.
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Joel
Smith and Nick Berkuta gave an update on the Soap Box
Derby planning (the team is looking for more racers, more money,
and more storage space, and Nick is hustling ads for the
program)
Clyde
Hemphill is looking for a few good Kiwanians for Pet Clinic
coming up
Diane
delle Valle reminded us of our upcoming programs (look back
to the first page)
Pat
Anderson encouraged us to come to the Chamber Mixer March 16
at 6:00 PM at Wells Fargo
Mike
Leininger needs a turnout for “Total K Day” March 11,
location and time still not set.
Bachy
Bachmayer asked us to donate to the buckets on the table,
please.
FROSTY’S
SLA REPORT
Frosty Boyd gave an update on our Sick Lame and Ailing
(which at the moment includes Dick and Shirley DeGrey,
Carl Gieseke, Frank and Vi Ragazzi, most of
whom are hanging on or getting better).
BOARD
MEETING UPDATE
For the
third time, will you please pay attention: Thursday night, March
2.
SPECIAL
PRESENTATION
Ken Lowe
introduced the new officers of the LCHS Key Club: President
Candice Young,
VP
Sana
Chaudry,
Secretary
Chris
Kim,
and Treasurer
Teddy
Lee.
President
Candice
thanked our club for supporting their travel to conference in
San Jose. VP
Sana
is running for International Trustee for Key Club and hopes she
makes it.

THE PROGRAM
Diane
introduced Marguerite Cooper, a retired diplomat from the
American Foreign Service, who had served for many years in
exotic places like India and Pakistan. Her most interesting
assignment was working with the United Nations International
Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) who monitor countries’ efforts to
make nuclear weapons (they’re the agency now trying to deal with
Iran). She spoke candidly about problems of corruption (in
foreign countries and in various agencies), the glass ceiling
for women in government (she was a party to a class-action suit
on the subject), and her opinion of Condoleeza Rice (not
good as the NSA Adviser, pretty good as Secretary of State).

HAPPY & SAD BUCKS
Jim
Edwards had been to an interclub and was happy to be here
instead
Pat
Anderson got 400 spam messages in a day, was glad when Tom
Slaughter fixed the problem
Harriet Hammons gave $3 for her literacy program, Boys
Scouts council, and forgot the third
Pat
Flynn was happy to see classmates in San Diego but sorry his
car died on the way back
Doris
Horwith bragged about her grandson – both a star golfer at
UCSB and on the Deans list
Bea
Cirar bragged on HER grandson – on the honor roll at his
school
Mike
Leininger gave $2 for the board meeting: a happy buck if it
is short, a sad buck if long
…………..
