*        Condolences to Pat Flynn and the Flynn family for the loss of his wife, Joyce.                                       

*        I will be on vacation (cruising to many exotic ports around the world) until March 15.  In my absence, Steve Hagerty will be chairing out meetings.                                

*        Welcome back to Daryal Gant, Howard Backer and Bill Scherkey who have been on the mend.

*        Daryal and Mary Gant have donated a two-night three-day stay at the Ramada Inn in Laughlin, NV.  The Trip must be taken before February 28.   Diane DellaValle's bid of $50 won the trip!  Have a great time in Laughlin!   

*         Our District Governor will be making her official visit on Sunday, March 5, at Brookside Country Club.  Please sign the sign-up sheet if you are planning to attend the luncheon.                    

*        The February Board Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 9, at the CitiBank in La Cañada starting promptly at 7 PM.                             

*     Next week:  Flag Salute by Jeb Long and Invocation by Bill Watts             

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Bob Wallace reminded us of the Travel log on the Wine Country of France.  French wine will be served.

Diane DellaValle reminded us that next week the program will be about the Love Boat.  The following week we will have a visit from the Rose Queen and her Court.

Bachy reminded us to put some money in the Children's Hospital tubs on your table.

FROSTY’S SLA REPORT

No new concerns to report.

CRAFT TALK by Karl La Masa

.Karl was born and raised in LA.  He loved sports, and played Football and Basket Ball in High School.  He attended Loyola Mary Mount where he received his Bachelor degree, and Air Force ROTC training.  He went into the Air Force, and his training was in Air Police Security.  Karl was assigned to SAC Security, and served on several SAC based in the US and other parts of the world.  After completing his stretch in the Air Force Karl enrolled in Grad School at USC.  Karl held several positions with the DOD, and developed skills in training.  Karl was a elementary school teacher for 35 years. 

Karl has been married for 46 years, and has a son and a daughter.  We found out that Karl is a great story teller, and has a lot of material to share.

THE PROGRAM

Alex Kirkaldy presented a very timely and informative report on Child Sex Offenders.  He presented a history of child predators and the court cased that have helped to shape the current laws.  (Jessica's Law and Megan's Law)  In the Sunland/Tujunga area there are approx. 12 registered sex offenders, there are 100,000 registered sex offenders in California, and 25,000 of them are missing.  Jessica's Law will be on the ballet in the November election.  Jessica's law will require registered sex offenders to ware a GPS Tracking device.

            Tom Gilfoy - Paid the pot a buck for his missed attempt!

Anniversaries: Don Corbett joined the Century Club for his 17th. anniversary.

Birthdays: Howard Backer, Jeb Long and Tom Gilfoy.  All joined the Century Club, but Tom did it with a twist.  He added $99 to his $1 fine for not getting the Kiwanis Defining Statement right.  Sounds right to me!

Frosty’s Challenge: Frosty had an appendix joke - Young lady asked her doctor if her scar would show?  Doctor said "Not if your careful!
