stuck it out to see our award winning LCF
float.
The Kiwanis Mid Year Convention in San Diego
is scheduled for February 4. A sign-up
sheet for is available.

divulged her ownership of tickets for the
game.

luncheon is planned for new Club members.
Jim Ackland is planning the event and
new members will receive invitations, so you

Awards presented.

FROSTY’S SLA
REPORT
Not much going on, so
Frosty gave us a sick, lame joke.
THE PROGRAM
Captain Tim Peters presented
a report on crime in the foothills
communities with a focus on La Cañada
Flintridge. The statistics that Captain Tim
presented were from the FBI Bureau of
Justice Statistics Report that is published
twice a year. There was no data available
from the separate areas in LA County. The
data and statistics were presented in a set
of graphs that broke down and clarified
various classifications of crimes over the
past five years.
The bottom line is that we
are very fortunate to live in La Cañada
Flintridge where one can still walk the
streets at any hour of the day or night
without much to worry about.
HAPPY & SAD
BUCKS
Al Perry Sr. … had two
reasons for Happy Bucks. He
was able to attend the Rose Parade with his
four grandchildren, and he arrived at the
meeting early enough to be sure he shook the
hand of the Secret Greeter.
Pat Anderson … had a
Happy Buck for the LCF Rose
Float that won the Best Theme award and
another Happy Buck for the great crime
deterents instituted by the sheriff's
department.
Carlos Cortez … was
Happy to have the company of
his daughter at our lunch meeting.
Paul Westmoreland …
had five Happy Bucks for the
upcoming USC game.
Mary Gant … had two
Happy Bucks for the USC pool.
Jim Stratton … invited
everyone to visit the new School District
offices, and had a Happy Buck
for the completion of the move into the new
digs.
Howard Backer … was
incredibly Happy because his
alma mater, University of Missouri and his
adopted UCLA both won a football game on the
same day and celebrated with twenty
Happy Bucks.
Nick Berkuta … had a
Happy Buck because our Club
always has an interesting new (to him)
project to tackle as soon as the
last project is completed.
Jack Dawson … had a
Happy Buck for Deputy Jim
Smith, who has taught us all how to
improve our driving.
Bill Scherkey … had a
Happy Buck because he joined
the ranks of the retired on January 1.

Kiwanis Defining Statement
Challenge: Frosty's name was pulled
from the jar and the Prez gave him a
chance to pay $5 and pass the challenge to
someone else. Frosty chose to try it
on his own, but protests from the crowd
stopped him in midstream when he left out
"global." Frosty was fined $1. The
Prez had another name drawn, and
Mary Gant recited the defining statement
perfectly, so the Prez had to put in
a buck.
