PRESIDENTIAL COMMENTS

President Mary welcomed everyone and asked Gigi Schlueter to come forward and report on last week’s La Cañadan of the Year Award luncheon.  Also, Tom Passanisi announced that the last Travel Adventure program of the year is this Saturday. 

 

 

 

GUESTS

Fred Schooley introduced Bill Geist, who was helping with our sound system.

 

Pat Anderson introduced two visitors from her office, Starr Frazier and June Beemer.  She also introduced Johnathon Curtis, form the Planning Commission.  Pat also introduced Barbara Marshall, chair of this year’s Fiesta Days, and Sister Carolyn McCormack from Sacred Heart.

Brian Fuller introduced his father, Michael.

Mike Leininger introduced visiting students from La Canada High School: Alex Keldjien and Kevork Kudoghilan.

Mark Alexander introduced Chris Castruita from his staff, and Councilwoman Laura Olhasso. 

 

Carl Christensen introduced the Executive Director of the Community Center, Deborah Jordan.

Al Restivo introduced new school board member Andrew Blumenfeld.

George Hernandez stood and re-introduced himself.  He is a former Club President of the San Fernando Kiwanis Club and looking to join our club and he brought a guest with him.

Three members of the Glendale Kiwanis Club attended today: Greg Krikorian, Pat Liddell, and Larry Moore. 

Nick Berkuta introduced Dan Baker, who is interested in joining our club as well. 

President Mary introduced Bill McAlexander, visiting as a guest and step-son of Jim Reynolds.

 

Jack led us in “Hi Neighbor”.

 

WELCOME BACK

Bill Watts was back after a long absence. 

President Mary also welcomed back all of our Senior Members in attendance.

 BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES

Margaret Watts celebrated her birthday In April.

Carl Christensen celebrated his birthday last Friday.

Charles Gullick celebrated his birthday by joining the Century Club. 

Jim Reynolds is celebrating his birthday this month.

Jack helped us through “Happy Birthday!

Bill & Margaret Watts celebrated their 53rd Anniversary on Margaret’s birthday. 

Jack led the singing of “Let Me Call You Sweetheart!”

Those not wearing their Kiwanis pins and those who did not shake hands with the secret greeter, Mark Alexander.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Clyde Hemphill announced that the Les Tupper Awards event is next Monday.  Harriett Hammons announced the Reading Assembly is on May 31st.  Leaving Descanso at 9:30 a.m.  Awards will be given to the children showing improved reading scores.  Skip Lindeman announced that Clergy Recognition Day will be June 13th Pat Anderson updated everyone on Fiesta Day’s events.  Pole Banners are up and will be up through December. 

HAPPY / SAD BUCKS

Mike Leininger Happy that High School is in good shape.  Thanks Kevork & Alex, who will be awarded a Les Tupper Award. 

 Clyde Hemphill – Happy that Gigi Schlueter did a great job on last week’s La Canada of the Year Award. 

Ellie Wildermuth -  Happy that Bob is home and that her car fits in the garage.

Greg Krikorian – Happy Mother’s Day and a special wish to his mother fighting Breast Cancer. 

Pat Liddell – Happy that OLD Clyde is still in the club (they were born in the same hospital in New Jersey) 

Jim Phillips - Happy the Montrose Wine & Kabob Happy Hour was successful.  And Happy to donate a $60 check from them!  

Al Restivo - Happy that he started a 2nd book. 

 

Pat Anderson – Happy that Congressman  

David Dryer got funding for a hillside study.  And Happy that David is a former Key Club President.   

 

Sister Carolyn – Happy that Sacred Heart is celebrating its 80 anniversary and that our Kiwanis Club will be returning there in December.  Emelita Bituin – Happy that an intern program was approved for the bank.  Pat Anderson – Sad for the members of the Planning Commission, who’s meeting lasted until 11:10 p.m. 

PROGRAM

Tom Passanisi introduced La Canada-Flintridge Past Mayor Dave Spence (2011-2012) who delivered to our club the State of the City. 

CLOSING

Jack and Tom sang us out “C’MON KIWANIS”.  Meeting was dismissed us at 1:30 p.m.
